my hot take: i feel like byler aus that aren’t at least slightly canon compliant don’t really do mike and will justice because so much of their relationship is built on the fact that they are childhood best friends who have been through so much together. it’s what makes them so good together.

i mean, a good portion of who will is as a character comes from where he grew up and how he got his childhood stolen from him. i don’t think byler would have the substance that it does if there was no el or vecna or upside down.

an even greater portion of the complexity in their relationship and the struggles they face come from the conflict between what they’ve always felt for eachother, how it changed over time, what that means for their friendship, and the risk they have to take to make it work.

they simply aren’t themselves if their dynamic doesn’t originate from a place of long term friendship

it pisses me off so much that people nowadays just watch a show and can’t form a single thought outside of the plot. like if something isn’t cannon compliant they immediately call you stupid.

“it’s not cannon” WHERE IS YOUR WHIMSY? WHERE IS YOUR ORIGINAL THOUGHT PROCESS? like damn, i’m sorry that i made a HEADcannon YOU SEE THE WORD HEAD ITS BECAUSE ITS IN MY MIND ITS NOT REAL ITS FOR ME!!!

and don’t even get me started on the ships. if you ship anything that’s not required on the show they treat you like you committed a crime. they can’t comprehend anything other than what is spoonfed to them.

like the members of general audiences that now have started to interact more with content made by fans just don’t understand not only the idea of crackships or rarepairs but of shipping something “unrequited”.

and don’t get me wrong i’m not saying that cannon ships can’t be good, i’m just saying that some people refuse to to acknowledge they’re bad. and believe it or not i’m not talking about the people who love that cannon ship for their own reasons.

i’m talking about the ones new to fandoms, which okay i get that not everyone has been in fandom spaces before but they act so immaturely. what do you get by commenting on a post SOMEONE ELSE made about something THAT YOU DONT CARE ABOUT? like “i hate [insert ship]” OKAY? THEN DONT INTERACT?

and the bullshit going on with the new wave of ao3 users, who have started commenting hateful stuff under fanfics THAT HAVE THE CORRECT TAGS. “it’s too slow i don’t like it” IT. IS. SLOW. BURN. not everything is FOR YOU, not everything needs an algorithm, and you don’t have to interact with everything.

this kinda descended into a “i hate how new people in fandoms tend to act like” rant. and disclaimer, i don’t mean all new people of course, im sure there are tons of good ones but if the shoe fits for you… and these are also behaviors that a lot of old fans tend to show.

i’m also not referring to ship wars, i actually think they can be kinda productive in a way if both parties actually are invested and present actual reasons for preferring their ships rather than them being cannon

TL;DR new people to fandom should stop caring so much about cannon and start embracing the creative sides of fandoms and also people should stop interacting with something if it’s not for them.

okay so im gay and therefore i want to talk about gay shit so let me talk about the old guard (the movie not the book please don’t @ me). so like 

also minor spoilers for the old guard movie that came out super recently! 

a.) i do need to talk about Joe and Nicky because i don’t think i can’t. oh my god it is evident how much they love each other in every gesture and i think that’s amazing. like really. and i think it shows the care that they were given in this movie and that means a lot to me y’know? and also not really a spoiler, but they didn’t die, which makes me just honestly ecstatic.

b.) Andy and Quynh had serious vibes fight me like i know it probably wasn’t intentional but you’re telling me that you don’t want Andy to be a bisexual badass?? okay then. 

c.) also Nile was badass as hell like really.

d.) also i thought they were going to fall into the black villain trope (theres a name for it im sure but i do not even know a little bit of it) but they didn’t!! the villain was actually british big pharma mark zuckerburg!!! oops! the real villain was corporations and capitalism all along! 

i have more to add but its 4 am and i still need to do stuff before i sleep! it was so very fun imo! and if its problematic please lmk, i didn’t think it was but i am for sure not the expert.

e.) oh my god when Nile has her nightmare about Quynh in the church and everyone is obviously exhausted and barely awake and Nicky still asks her what it was about even though everyone would much rather go back to sleep? the found family vibes are just simply immaculate.
