This afternoon Derek and I set up the artwork for our book launch at the Bookstore at Library Square, which will be Friday, March 13. I underestimated how proud I would feel of this little book. I initially wanted to push something really small and simple out--and I think that’s what we’ve done--but I’m also proud of it.

A few years ago I commissioned Evan Hallmark to draw Roger Woods, Liz’s favorite UA Little Rock Trojan basketball player from the 2015-2016 season, when we were childless and barely missed a game. That piece hangs in our hallway now and I love it so much. I love all of Evan’s work. When he agreed to create illustrations to go with some of my writing for an experimental tiny book, I couldn’t wait to see what he’d do with it. We chose an essay about my experience at basic training that seemed to match his style especially well. The result is everything I could have hoped for and I can’t wait to share it with you in March.
