Guilty.
Mimi stepped through the remnants of the portal as her energy fizzled out.
She was back. After all these years, she finally decided to come back.
Reverting back to her mirror shape form, Mimi hovered just above the ground. Images of cold red liquid and chills filled her senses as she recalled the events in this house from so long ago. She even remembered seeing her horrified face in the reflection of the pools of blood that collected at her feet.
“I’m home, Evangeline.” Mimi whispered to the air. A part of her still wondered if Evan would have been happier without ever knowing Mimi. Without ever having to experience this.
Deciding she could no longer look at the death scene that so vividly played out in her head, Mimi retreated to the living room. Sitting there in her thoughts, eyes closed, she let the silence take over.
She should have returned to her warm and loving home. Her energy reserves there were better suited for her recovery. But what was there to fix when all she felt was dead, something she wished happened to her than to Evangeline.
“Forgive me, Evan...” The crippled demon broke down into quiet sobs once more.
There was nothing left for her. Not anywhere.
Maybe there was never anything to begin with.
