it might have been reckless of me to spook this Evarcha jucunda out of her whimsical leaf shelter, but while she was perched on her metaphorical balcony waiting for me to go away, a lucky burst shot captured her retinal movement scanning her surroundings for ugly six foot tall rodents. these photos are about half a second apart at most, so go ahead and say what you will about spiders but they can turn their eyes red way faster than you can

upon finding an Evarcha jucunda that didn't seem particularly shy, i chased her along a wall for a bit in an attempt to get a frontal shot. she was still not very fond of my presence, but the only thing more powerful than a jumper's cowardice is their curiosity, so i got a couple of reluctant glances

she lost interest very quickly, but the difference in color on the AMEs in these last two pics compared to the first two is a nice example of retinal movement. "i pretend i do not see it" type shit

this Evarcha jucunda was very confident that nothing i could do could get him to leave his retreat and he wasn't wrong. combined with the fact that it was a late afternoon in october, the photos turned out quite dark, but it makes him look especially cozy in there. appreciate his homemaking skills or laugh at his balding old man hair if you prefer
