Good things are temporary... because greater things overcome them. When something good goes, something greater comes. Then that greater thing goes and an even greater thing comes. It’s an endless cycle of greatness. The cycle of greater things awaits you, so it’s okay for good things to be temporary because great things are coming.
Let’s just do one of those huge messy ‘here’s my heart’ text posts for people to scroll by so that I can just get my feelings out here.
I literally have no idea where I’m going or who I’m becoming, and it’s killing me and making me at the same time. I guess who I become through this will show what kind of person I am, following the whole ‘not who you are through the good, but through the bad’ train of thought. But man, it hurts. God might be doing great things, but great things don’t always feel great.
Great things can hurt worse than the worst things do, because the great things are busy refining and scaffolding and reconstructing and making differences. The bad stuff? That seems to come from a heap of unwillingness to change and to develop and to grow. But then sometimes unwillingness can come from a tiredness of change... especially when that change is only ever purposed for preparation - when it’s only ever a foundation for the greater things that are still coming.
Everyone told me this was going to be a great year, but it’s been mostly layers and layers of scaffolding, and it’s really making me tired. I know it’s necessary, but tired feels so unproductive. It’s hard not to think that you’re stuffing up; that you could have just skipped to the layer you’re sitting on now if you’d listened better. It’s hard to be convinced that each and every day, no matter how great or how little my growth has been, it’s been significant and important all the same. It’s hard to remember that I’m on track, because the track keeps changing in front of me as I walk it. It’s hard to have faith when faith keeps promising more, but delivers only more promises.
Promises mean waiting, and I’m so bad at it. I can’t really tell if the choices I’m making come from a certainty of my options or an uncertainty in changing my options again. I can’t really tell if people are standing in as the voice of God or if they’re just throwing their opinions at me. I can’t really tell when I’m listening to myself or when I’m listening to God and I can’t tell what the outcome of all this is going to be, at all.
I know God’s here for me now and tomorrow; that his plan is perfectly written and that he will guide me as I walk it. I just don’t know if I’ll be confident that I’m walking it; and if I’m not, that throws into question whether or not I’ll have the attitude to make what I need to from the journey.
There’s so many questions on my mind, and the assurance that I do have seems so incapable of carrying the weight of my anxiety. But what I do know is that God has gotten me this far, and he promises to walk this with me. Not knowing is the most uncomfortable experience of my life, but maybe that’s the point - maybe this is all just a part of learning, over and over, that being comfortable with the uncomfortable is where this whole Christian thing’s at.

Praise in the morning Praise in the evening Praise when I'm laughing Praise when I'm grieving There will be dancing There will be singing Upon injustice we will tell of our God
