나는 오늘부터 말을 하지 않기로 했다

일본 전국시대戦国時代 말엽을 대표하는 세 명의 정치가가 있다. 오다 노부나가織田信長, 도요토미 히데요시豊臣 秀吉, 도쿠가와 이에야스德川 家康가 그들이다. 이들에 관해서 전해 내려오는 흥미로운 이야기를 하나 소개한다. 이 이야기는 에도시대江戸時代에 쓰여진 고전시가 중 하나인 ‘갑자야화甲子夜話‘가 그 출처로, 극명하게 대조를 이루는 이들 세 사람의 성격을 다루고 있다.

세 사람 앞에 울지 않는 뻐꾸기가 있다. 이를 울리기 위해서 세 사람은 각각 어떤 방법을 썼을까. 오다 노부나가는 뻐꾸기가 울지 않으면 죽여버리고, 도요토미 히데요시는 수단과 방법을 가리지 않고 뻐꾸기가 울게 한다. 흥미로운 것은 세 번째인 도쿠가와 이에야스인데 그는 뻐꾸기가 울 때까지 그저 기다렸다고 한다.

It is not told by the founders but by the people who got the assignment to build the prototype and later got heavily involved in the product and design of the Medium we see today. It is an angle on the story that we not often read about. Well worth the time and it is also presented in a great way, so it is easy to understand why these guys got the assignment from the Obvious team.
