MYTHSNET MYTHOLOGY A-Z: [E] for Eos
“Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.”
MYTHSNET MYTHOLOGY A-Z: [A] for Artemis
“Over the shadowy hills and windy peaks she draws her golden bow… The tops of the high mountains tremble and the tangled wood echoes awesomely with the outcry of beasts.”
MYTHSNET MYTHOLOGY A-Z: [B] for Beira
In Scottish folklore, Beira is said to be the goddess of winter. She carries a magic staff which can freeze the ground with a tap. At the end of each winter, she would throw her staff under the holly and the gorse bush. These are believed to be her sacred trees. Then, the goddess transforms into a grey stone, which is a signal that winter has ended.
MYTHSNET MYTHOLOGY A-Z: [D] for Dagr
Dagr is the personification of the day in Norse mythology. He is the son of Dellingr and Nótt, radiant and fair like his father, who personfied the dawn. The Alföðr took Nótt and Dagr, and gave to them two horses and two chariots, and sent them up into the heavens, to ride round about the earth every two half-days.
MYTHSNET MYTHOLOGY A-Z: [C] for Chronos
“Time does not efface what noble men leave behind, and their prowess shines forth even when they are dead.” (insp.)
