Jack thought he was pretty slick, scooting by paparazzi as quickly as he could to avoid getting his clearly out-of-place footwear in the shot. He was hoping to avoid dealing with flashing cameras as much as possible throughout spring and summer considering all of fall was going to be spent on a press tour for The Marauders. Now all he wanted was to enjoy himself, go on a trip, and dive in deep with a new project he knew he was probably going to gush about the moment someone gave him an opening.

The upsides of sneakers are the comfort and durable. The downside is the laces. He thought he was in the clear when he noticed his right shoelaces undone, but before he’d finished tying them back up again there was a series of bright flashes that caught him off-guard. “For fuck’s sake,” he sighed, pulling the laces just a hair too tight.

“Miss Rutherford-” Strange to say it when he wasn’t talking to Lara. “How are you?” Olivier’s smile was warm and welcoming as he sat down across from the young woman at the bar of the Michelin starred restaurant. He hoped she wouldn’t find it rude if he ordered at least an appetizer. Sitting atop the bar was the Easter Egg with a wish they were both to grant. “Shall we crack this open? Also, I know we just ate a five-course meal, but would you like to try anything on the menu?”

Jack opted for a private car that night to drop him off and pick him up from the event. Technically, he’d come with Ina, but by this point she was already lone gone, likely off to some bar Sveta owned to peddle drugs to people there. It made him sick to think about it and he tried to distract himself by pretending to examine some exterior decorations as he called for his car. It was the third time he called and finally someone picked up, but what he heard was hardly pleasant. There’d been an accident, the driver was fine, but the car was a mess and they didn’t have an extra car in the fleet free to pick him up. He apologized to them for even making them think he’d ask for a ride after this situation and hung up.

And now he was stuck outside The Empire at the end of the night with no way home unless he wanted to try to stumble his way to a train that might not be in service at this hour.

It was nearly poetic. Two men with eyes more for the food on each passing plate than the faces around them. Each reaches for an appetizer, but alas - they reach for the same one, and their eyes lock as their hands touch. “Théo, buy me a fucking drink first, at least.”

Olivier was at a point where he was happy to be invited anywhere. At the risk of looking overzealous, he’d scaled back just how much he went out with some of his brother’s friends and blamed it on being the old man in the group. The amount of St. Clair commandants and loyalists that would be in attendance should’ve been a deterrent, but he was excited to see them even if from a distance and from the other side. He’d stick with some of his brother’s friends, say hello to Damon, and hopefully get out before he got in a fight or got found out. 

He thought he had every interaction planned out. He was convinced he knew exactly how he’d act if he saw Delphine or the Halévy sisters or Théo. He forgot it’d been a long time since he was in the loop with the French. Long enough to not know an old friend from Paris was in town. It was obvious he was startled to see Richard the moment he saw the man, and impossible to avoid passing him on his way to his table.

“Is Vitaly still playing hard to get with every woman in London?” Zhanna leaned forward to check her makeup in the mirror, giving a slight nod of approval when she saw that nothing had been smudged thus far. She placed one hand on the sink as she pushed herself upright again, using the other to snatch up her glass of champagne. She looked over at Sveta in the next mirror. “You look hot as fuck. How many nights have you ruined so far by telling people you’re married?”
