Throwback Thursday to this drawing I did 4 years ago called “Sedated Slaveship”. It was done for a festival poster in North Dakota that didn’t end up happening. It was based on a old drawing I did when I was 19 years old (scroll to the next pic to see it). It shows how I felt at one point of over stimulation and the desire to purify (where I’m at these days). Anyways, I redrew it over a 10 day period, as I crossed the Atlantic Ocean, from Belgium to New Jersey, on a huge cargo boat. It was a purifying experience in itself, which you can see as an old Artventure video on YouTube. Then, a bit more recently, I hired a talented Balinese sculptor (called Ida Sudana) to reproduce the drawing on a little piece of moose antler. The results blew my mind! I illustrated and designed the poster for JETAA Ottawa's Japanese summer festival, Natsu Matsuri, to take place on July 21 at Ottawa City Hall. If you’re in the area that weekend, come for a day of dance, martial arts, music and fun booths celebrating Japanese culture!

The first PIXIES album I ever bought was #BOSSANOVA Somehow it caught my attention while I was spending all my time listening to a lot of metal and punk rock. That silly #grungerock stuff was getting popular and radio had yet gone corporate. The album was the right mix of punk and alternative for me. The lyrics to "Is She Weird" really caught my attention. At the time it made me think of lady vampires who’s heads detached and floated around. That’s what I took from the song 28 years ago. #Iwasaweirdkid . I decided to try something different from the usual #skulls and #anatomy. I was looking at a certain artist while “brainstorming” ideas for the poster.
