Prenatal care saves lives. Mobile clinic midwife, Marie Ange, examines a pregnant mother in the space she has available at this rural clinic in Los Monmones. Opposite this corner, another midwife is also doing maternal assessments. 50 women received prenatal or postnatal care here yesterday. The traveling midwives can see up to 150 women on a single day and are reaching 24 villages monthly. Most women walk long distances at all stages of pregnancy to reach these clinics, and 1/3 of the women walk over 3 hours *each way* because it’s usually their only chance to receive the care that ensures a safe pregnancy. - Haiti has the highest maternal mortality rates in the W. Hemisphere and nearly all of these deaths are preventable. By bringing maternity care to some of the most vulnerable women, the Mobile Prenatal Clinic is closing a critical gap in care and saving lives. - On May 5th, International Day of the Midwife, we’ll be kicking off our annual appeal to keep the midwives on the road. We hope you’ll join us. 💕🚐 - #whateverittakes #everywoman #everybaby #safebirthforall #mobileclinic #haiti (Photo: Beth Passini Carlson) (at Plateau, Centre, Haiti)
