One of the things I love about Sam ships is that I can make most of them coexist in a frankensteinesque master timeline.
Samleila - they dated in college, broke up due to separate paths and distance, but stayed close friends
Samriley - met in training, Afghanistan, bi awakening, first Great Love, tragic end, wrecked him and took a long time to heal
Samsteve - the cutest meet cute of all meet cutes, maybe dance around each for a while post-WS, (slip some Samnat competition in there), but maybe they break it off pre-CW since Sam's been finding Bucky in Europe and feels conflicted keeping it a secret (no funny business...from Sam's side, he just gave his word), and dating plus working together as Avengers is just complicated.
Samchalla - every visit to Wakanda is a little more interesting, Steve and Bucky don't know how to handle it. They're spiralling. Sam's having fun. Being wooed is a nice reprieve from being a fugitive.
Sambucky - well Steve's gone, and there's ✨ tension✨ , Bucky's been a pining mess this whole time. Post-TFATWS he gets his act together and makes a move.
Samdennis - Post-Tb well we know what happened there, Dennis isn't no fool though, he knows how to make a move and show Sam a good time. It's fun and flirty.
Samquin - dude has been DYING out here trying to get his turn, it's not fair, (he knew Sam first, Dennis!), he paid for their coffee date, he thought he was being obvious about it but nooooo. He had to witness the Bucky mess and Dennis getting in there first because Joaquin was being Respectful. But NOW is his time! Get out of his way.

My Lame Behind Voicing My Fears Regarding FATWS: What if Bucky falls in love with Sam, and Sam falls for Bucky, and there’s PINING and softness and A Kiss and Love MAKING but then Sam pulls away from Bucky because Steve gave Sam a good and proper dicking that one time in CATWS and Sam doesn’t want to ruin what he and Bucky have by letting Bucky know what happened i.e. that he’s not the first Old Man he’s been with plus the other Old Fella was Bucky’s BFF Steven Grant Rogers and angst ensues? What if Sam tells Bucky what happened after Sam takes off to the rural hideaway without an explanation and Bucky goes there to find him and win him back? And what if Bucky calls Steve an Asthmatique Asshole and says he’s not gonna let what happened come between them and what they have together and that he doesn’t judge Sam for his past and having a sex life before they met? And what if I die then?
I think some of you are gonna get whiplash from one fic to my next.
If you’re familiar with my works, you may have read DAAAE and know that I love me some case fics and violence. THAT I am good at. ISWAFC was actually really hard because I was learning as I went HOW to write a story that was centered around the development of characters rather than events. It was extremely challenging because I’d never done it before.
But, if you read it, you know it’s also very fluffy and full to bursting with Found Family and Feels.
We’re Gonna Be Legends is gonna be nothing like it. Don’t get me wrong, it is FILLED with sibling feels, cuddle piles, sleepovers, adopted!Charlie, and Dean and Cas being adorable and pining SO VERY HARD, but there is also gonna be a lot of internalized homophobia and shame and anger. There will be regular genderswapping because of new mythology. There will be monsters and fights and graphic violence and bloodshed and characters pushed beyond what they think they can take. They’re gonna lash out at each other. It includes zombies and skinwalkers and wendigos and game nights and investigative journalism and going to the movies and then clubbing. There’s torture. There are very conflicted and complex characters. I’m trying to commit emotional murder here. There will be a happy ending, but it’s gonna be like crawling through glitter and glass to get to. The characters, and you as readers, are gonna have to earn that ending, and it will be so well deserved.
I’m looking forward to being cruel to be kind. You’ve been warned.
Fr though I think Wakandans in general hold Sam in very high esteem. Shuri and her team agreed to make multiple Cap suits for him, entrusting him with a not-insignificant quantity of vibranium.
M'Baku and Sam could have very fun, intriguing chemistry. Diplomatic relations if you will. 😉

Let’s get one thing straight. Sam Wilson is NOT afraid of the ocean. He just has as a great respect for it. So when the time comes for the Wilson family trip of course he invites his super friends to come.
And of course they agree, forget fighting villains seeing Sam Wilson in a pair of swim trunks takes precedence.
The trip here is fun they all pile into an RV van and Sarah does her very best to figure out what these three newbies want her older brother. Unlike Sam, Sarah is quick to realize what is going on here. While Sam plays with Jayden (her 4 year old son) she watches the three interlopers. They haven’t taken their eyes off him.
" Up up Unca Sam!"
" Again Buddy? Alright then, get ready for take off." Jayden giggles as Sam lifts him up in the air and starts making the sound effects.
In the back of the RV the ”three interlopers” are drinking the whole scene in. Steve is taking a video with his phone, already listing off the names of their future kids in his head. He wants at least 10 (Steve your Irish side is showing).
Natasha is trying to be more subtle, she is actually interacting with the family. Winning them over will make the wooing over of Sam a lot easier. Gideon is easy. He basically hasn’t taken his eyes off her since they met. Paul Wilson is nice but he’s focusing on driving. Darlene is reading a map (because no matter how many times they make this trip they end up getting lost at some point). Now Sarah…she’s difficult.
Because game recognizes game.
She’s polite, cordial even, but her eyes tell Natasha that she knows what’s up.
As for Bucky…he’s in the corner…actually petrified.
He sees how happy Sam is with his nephew (and he loves it to death). Which makes him think about any type of future they could have. He already has a tough time with adults so kids seem to be out of the question. He watches Jayden and sees innocence and purity. Bucky’s convinced that any kid in his supervision for long periods of time would end up messed up.
Sam, in a moment of great perception, turns to Bucky and asks him if he could take care of Jayden for about 30 mins while he tries to take a power nap. He sees the slightly scared look in Bucky’s eyes but he smiles gently and hands over Jayden.
Bucky holds Jayden at arms length for about 5 minutes. Please don’t cry…I don’t know what to do if you start to cry. Jayden’s face is blank for about that time, he’s unsure of this new person.
"Up…up?" He asks questioningly.
"…Okay?" Bucky lifts him up slowly and let’s him down gently. Jayden’s face loosens up a little the more as times goes on until he’s giggling like a fiend. Bucky starts smiling, he’s getting into it. He starts making sound effects which make Jayden giggle even more.
Sam, who never needed to rest in the first place, just smiled with his eyes closed.
After a while Jayden starts to get sleepy and Bucky moves to give him back to Sarah but Jayden starts moving closer to him. Bucky looks to Sarah who is smiling and then closes her eyes to take a nap herself (Gideon is already snoring softly right behind Paul’s seat). Bucky smiles a little in returning and sits back and let’s Jayden sleep on him.
Sam “wakes up” and looks at Jayden and then Bucky.
"Jayden’s a natural BS detector…" Sam whispers, " He’d know if you were a bad person Buck. He doesn’t fall asleep on just anyone you know."
" Is that right?" A relaxed looked on Bucky’s face makes Sam smile more.
" Yup." Sam says cheerfully, while still minding his volume. "He’s just telling you what I’ve known for a while. You’re a good man Bucky Barnes. it’s about time you start believing that."
`Bucky feels himself start to flush, nervous because they way Sam looks at him is so genuine. He doesn’t know what to say but it’s okay because Sam looks like he just fell asleep (for real this time).
" You did good Buck." Steve says warmly. No malice in his eyes. Bucky deserved this one.
" Yeah Barnes…good job." Natasha stretches, smiling genuinely " But don’t get too comfy just yet…I’m not gonna give up just yet."
" Neither am I." Steve winks.
Bucky rubs Jayden back when he seems to wake up. Where did that come from?
When Jayden drifts back to sleep, Bucky’s confidence grows.
" Bring it you two. Me and my new buddy Jayden are ready." Bucky smirks. Steve shakes his head and quietly laughs. Natasha just rolls her eyes.

When they get to the beach is just what they are hoping for.
Sam is weird around the water for a little while but Jayden convinces him to go in (the little guy was scared of the ocean and would only go if Sam did too).
" You think we can do it buddy?"
" YEAH!" Jayden says suddenly determined. He has his official Falcon water wing floaties on. He lets Sam take the Falcon floater that wraps around the waist.
" Before anyone goes anywhere I want pictures."
" Aw come on Sarah." Sam laughs.
" Preserving memories." And possible future bribing material for the interlopers. Who perk up at the idea of ‘photos’.
Once pictures are done. Sam picks up Jayden.
" You ready buddy?"
" YEAH!"
" Alright then. Let’s….GOOOOO!" They charge for the ocean. They end up have a blast in the water. Whatever problems Sam had with the sea initially are gone. Replaced with better memories.
At the end of the day the Wilsons throw an amazing barbecue.
Jayden sits with his mom, so the trio get to fight about who sits next to Sam.
