One of the things I love about Sam ships is that I can make most of them coexist in a frankensteinesque master timeline.

Samleila - they dated in college, broke up due to separate paths and distance, but stayed close friends

Samriley - met in training, Afghanistan, bi awakening, first Great Love, tragic end, wrecked him and took a long time to heal

Samsteve - the cutest meet cute of all meet cutes, maybe dance around each for a while post-WS, (slip some Samnat competition in there), but maybe they break it off pre-CW since Sam's been finding Bucky in Europe and feels conflicted keeping it a secret (no funny business...from Sam's side, he just gave his word), and dating plus working together as Avengers is just complicated.

Samchalla - every visit to Wakanda is a little more interesting, Steve and Bucky don't know how to handle it. They're spiralling. Sam's having fun. Being wooed is a nice reprieve from being a fugitive.

Sambucky - well Steve's gone, and there's ✨ tension✨ , Bucky's been a pining mess this whole time. Post-TFATWS he gets his act together and makes a move.

Samdennis - Post-Tb well we know what happened there, Dennis isn't no fool though, he knows how to make a move and show Sam a good time. It's fun and flirty.

Samquin - dude has been DYING out here trying to get his turn, it's not fair, (he knew Sam first, Dennis!), he paid for their coffee date, he thought he was being obvious about it but nooooo. He had to witness the Bucky mess and Dennis getting in there first because Joaquin was being Respectful. But NOW is his time! Get out of his way.

Sam looks good like this. A smile on his face and a light sheen of sweat covering his skin. Their pace isn’t fast or intense. They move slow about the boxing ring. Leila throws punches and Sam takes the hits on the pads or parries the blow with a swing of his own. It’s just enough to keep Leila light on her feet, but slow enough that they can still talk and laugh. Sam is generous with his time. They meet twice weekly when he isn’t busy. She is finding their training sessions to be her favorite time of the week. Sam is generous with his smiles and jokes, making Leila smile in return. He is a delightful distraction to her. This crush of hers growing with every session they spend together. She wonders if he can tell. If her eyes betray the feelings spreading through her chest. If he does, Sam doesn’t say anything — ever focused on the task at hand – still generous with his smiles.

Well, since someone asked…

Leila is Sam’s sister, Joaquin is his son, Sam and Steve literally had a meet cute, an instant bond, and lived in each other’s pockets for years (and have decades worth of romantic tension in the comics too) but everyone seems to forget they’re even friends and won’t even acknowledge that Steve left Sam behind too in Endgame, and the mere mention of SamDennis had people screaming crying and throwing up even though Dennis is actually canonically gay, and do you know why folks act like that and say that stuff???? Because they truly do not care about Sam unless he’s with Bucky.

It’s SamBucky or nothing, and not because SamBucky is their otp or the only ship they can enjoy, because a lot of them would happily ship Bucky with a tree stump if there weren’t any male characters around, but because Sam exists in their minds solely to take care of and prop up Bucky.

So, when someone is a multishipper and ships Sam with various people it grinds their gears. It is what it is, and what it is is obvious lol.

These folks have no problems with multishippers when they’re using their multi-shipping as an excuse to act batshit insane and be blatantly racist, but the second some Sam fan is just genuinely enjoying multiple ships involving Sam and, you know, not being an insane bigot, then people want to start making up family relationships and crying about their otp losing fic authors. LOL y’all really do kill me
