Who Owned Each Era: Girl’s Day - I’ll Be Yours
The hiatus between Ring My Bell and I’ll Be Yours was excruciating. Girl’s Day were very active individually in dramas and variety shows, but as a group, there was a lot to be desired. Also, Minah could have had a solo comeback in 2016, but for some reason, she didn’t. Sojin could have had a solo debut in 2016, but no. Even live performances were sparse. Perfect Stage was promoted as the next Hello Bubble and was just a big lie (it’s a good 72 seconds, but don’t promise me another Hello Bubble and give me not even a third of a song). It wasn’t a good time to be an OT4 stan. But I’ll Be Yours was honestly, worth the long wait. It was big, it was powerful, it was soulful, it was such a breath of fresh air. The MV was good too, with Minah flipping the Cinderella trope on it’s head, and Hyeri beating up the guy who beat her man up. Sojin being a sexy Noona to some men who were curiously on fire, and Yura slamming on a burning piano (did Yura set the men on fire? We’ll never know) just added to the over the top, special feel of the MV that combined Girl’s Day’s charms into a neat little package.
To be honest, I didn’t like the live outfits very much. I liked the leopard fringe ones, the leopard body suits, the grey velvet bodysuits, the gold & black velvet body suits, the blue sparkly zig-zag ones, and the white sparkly fringe ones. I didn’t like the grey hounds-tooth ones, the maroon hounds-tooth ones, or the pink & white fringe ones. If they had worn the sparkly silver body suits on stage, I honestly don’t think I would have survived, but I would have died happy. Those silver body suits were AMAZING.
It’s Sojin! Even Minah says this era is Sojin’s.
Even the bad outfits looked fantastic on Leader Unnie. Whether her hair was straight, wavy, or curly, she made an impact visually. Her expressions are legendary, she gives life and destroys it with her gaze. The thigh band? Amazing. The choreography? In Sojin’s hands (or legs), it sizzled. She knocked it out of the park this era. Minah’s red hair looked flawless when it was wavy, her bangs were combed back, or up in a loose ponytail; when it was straight with her bangs over her forehead, it made her look peaky. Hyeri’s bangs were cut at an awkward length, and when it was up it just looked blocky. She looked much better when they dyed her hair back to black halfway through promotions. I didn’t like Yura’s grey-ish brown hair this cycle either, though her half up half down ponytail was gorgeous on her.
