This hourglass is used to limit the time of serving dishes. If your dishes are not served before the sand run out. The restaurant will give you a good discount on your bill. It really pleases Chinese who are always impatient on waiting. #everydayobservations #service #Chineseculture #waiting #hourglass
When I was waiting for my flight at Shanghai Pudong airport, I found a very interesting phenomenon. The flight was delay and the staff told us it would take 20 minutes to get aboard. But when about 3 or 4 people began to line up in front of the counter, more and more rushed to follow. 3 minutes later, there were more than 50 people waiting in the line and they insisted for over 20 minutes. (clearly the staff underestimated the delay.) So why would people be willing to stand so long even when they knew they have to wait longer? I guess that is for the misunderstand info and sunk cost. The first ones who lined up sent the hints that boarding began. People who don't want to be the last ones in the queue chose to follow. In this link misunderstand info functioned. And when they stood in the line, they don't want to waste the sunk cost (the time they spent and the place they got) even when they knew the info was wrong. So if the link of info transfering is more clear and more efficient, will it decreases people's unnecessary waiting? #everydayobservations #everydayreflections #Shanghai #pudongairport #infotransfer #efficiency #sunkcost
