More Uncanny and Everyday Strange: The crying child phenomena was big in the 1950s-70s, all part of a boom in affordable art for the masses, here is my homage to the curse of the crying children: the Etienne Roth still in pencil stage, Bragolin one is finished. My Nan had both of these paintings, and where the Crying Boy is well known for its supposed curse and link with house fires, the Boy and Girl is the painting that troubled me most in my early childhood. Hanging near the end of the bed in my grandparents’ house, I’d lie awake listening to their snoring, the clock ticking, and just stare at this painting. It troubled me - why were they so sad, and what did they want from me…

Going to start posting some work from my longterm project, The Uncanny and Everyday Strange, my exploration into the weird stuff which seeps into daily life, heavily influenced by growing up in the 70s and 80s. To start with Testcard #F, that most ubiquitous of images. Any child growing up pre-multi channel TV Britain will understand the concept of sitting there staring at the creepy child and clown, waiting for something to happen…
