I Said 50 Followers Would Get Y'all an Enasquared Wedding, and I am Nothing if Not a Gal of My Word
I Give to You, The Big Day!
Looking at herself in the mirror right now, dressed to the nines in the most dashing suit her job could buy her, RENA almost couldn't believe she was even alive. Her whole life had been filled with pain, suffering, murderous orders and intents that she’d been taught to follow without question. Not once had RENA even dared to consider the idea of settling down, of finding that one perfect person who completed her like they were matching puzzle pieces.
Until she met the darling woman she was about to devote her very life to, that is.
Was it narcissistic of her to fall in love with a member of her own species? RENA didn't think so, and neither did her beloved, who seemed quite thrown off the first time someone brought the topic up. Plenty of other entities fell in love with their own species, it was almost expected of them, so why the majority of people found the need to heckle RENA and her ENA bride was truly beyond the two.
Regardless, that wasn’t the topic of the day, and RENA was truly ecstatic about that. The last thing ENA needed on such a special day was to hear some derivative dribe about what others thought. What ENA needed was something RENA and only RENA could give; unconditional love, support, and absolute adoration from the person whose heart she'd stolen and refused to let go of.
"You're going to smear your makeup before the wedding even starts." Froggy's cool and collected tone drew RENA from her thoughts, a welcome distraction that made her appreciate inviting him even more.
Granted, half of her entire business had been invited as bridesmaids or groomsmen, but semantics.
"You've no proof that I've applied any form of that cakey goop to my physical form." RENA muttered, blushing and letting her Salesperson Face put on the front she needed. For now, at least. "Besides, there's time for me to recover."
"Before the ceremony, sure. I wouldn't recommend you try to hold those tears back the instant you see your bride, however." Froggy advised, sitting next to RENA on the bench in front of her large boudoir. "Let her know how you truly feel about her. Show her how much you love her."
RENA hummed, using a wet wipe to dab away a few tears that were gathering at the corners of her eyes. "You'll have to forgive me if this ceremony does not adhere to conventional standards. I am... unused to these sorts of feelings. To this sort of... affection."
"So I've noticed." Froggy chuckled, gently patting RENA's shoulder before standing and stretching. "Well, if you aren't planning on Dissipating any time soon, I'm going to go make sure your daughter doesn't get into the food or presents early."
"Oh, please do." RENA groaned, wilting for just a moment before recomposing herself just as quickly. "Thank you, Froggy. Your kindness knows no bounds."
"I wouldn't be too sure about that." Froggy replied, humming at the sound of a crash from down the hall.
"MOONY! PUT THAT DOWN! SHE DOESN'T NEED THAT MUCH BLUSH!" Coral's nervous voice echoed through the halls, followed by none other than Moony's maniacal laughter. "PLEASE! THIS IS HER SPECIAL DAY, SHE LOOKS LIKE A CLOWN!"
"I beg your pardon?!" Merci's offended cry sounded, which served to be the driving force for Froggy to finally make his leave.
"Will you girls stop it?!"
RENA couldn't help but chuckle at the situation, feeling her nerves quickly go from ice cold to a soothing warmth. Her code settled and gave her a sense of peace for the time being, something RENA planned on savoring as long as she could.
It was her wedding day, after all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The venue was full, much to RENA's surprise. Honestly, she hadn't been aware that ENA even knew this many people! A pink dolphin man, some giant eldritch being composed entirely of skulls who appeared to be offering therapy sessions of all things, a tiny hourglass dog that happily sat in the front row with its species-typical dopey look brightening everyone's day, just to name a few.
"You ready?" Dratula whispered to RENA, the sticky note on his face adorning a proud smile.
"As ready as I can ever be." RENA whispered back, gasping as the familiar Wedding March started to play. A charming little quartet of frogs played the piece like it was their life's purpose, and it took everything in RENA to keep from approaching them about a business venture regarding future events.
Another time, RENA. Another time.
Without warning, a plume of smoke grabbed everyone's attention, drawing all eyes to the end of the aisle, where Moony and Taski were creating a dramatic flourish around ENA. It was uncalled for, unplanned, and honestly somewhat inappropriate, but the way the entire thing made ENA giggle and chitter made up for all of it. Honestly, RENA would put up with the dumbest bullshit their friends threw at them as long as it made ENA happy.
"Flowers! Flowers! Flowers!" Claire chanted as she made her way down the aisle, tossing daffodils this way and that with excitement only a child could muster. "Mummy's flowers!"
And they truly were. RENA could easily recall the day she found out about her darling's Call Name. It had slipped out during a conversation with Moony- how the damn moon managed to get under RENA's code by just knowing this kind of stuff was incredible, really -and left RENA thrown for a loop. She was aware that ENA had a Call Name, no ENA was born without one, but still.
It was perhaps one of the most adorable things RENA had ever heard. And she'd heard a LOT in her lifetime.
"Come on, Mummy! Mother is waiting!" Claire cheered as she finally made her way to the alter. She stumbled a bit and needed to be steadied by Coral Glasses, who couldn't hide the amused smile that only the tiny Byte (and Taski, it seemed) managed to coax into the open. "Mother, mummy looks so pretty! You're gonna see her and be like 'Wow! I get to marry her?! I'm so lucky!'"
Merci shushed Claire and gently tapped her shoulder, not missing the myriad of amused chuckles the action caused.
Seconds later, the bride-to-be was being walked down the aisle by Froggy, who was seemingly failing to take his own advice. The tears in his eyes were visible, even from the alter, and the way his breaths hitched with every step almost made RENA start laughing. She held herself back, though; ENA didn't need a bit of teasing to ruin their perfect day.
The duo walked up to the alter with matching steps, Froggy offering a bit of whispered advice to ENA before handing her off to RENA and taking his place behind the soldier. There was a brief moment of tense silence, broken only by a soft hiccup from ENA that RENA knew all too well. A swift movement sent ENA's veil flying back, though instead of showing her Sad Face working to hold back tears like RENA expected, her Happy Face was in full view with tears of joy flowing down her cheeks.
"Special tears, only for you." ENA cooed, reminding RENA of their first night of passion. Of how she was terrified to find ENA sobbing, how she thought she'd harmed the poor soul in some way, all until ENA dropped the giant bombshell that the tears weren't of pain. Not completely, anyhow. They were compromised of many things: Fear, anxiety, and excitement, just to name a few. It was only after she'd calmed down that ENA explained the difference between sad tears and happy tears, the latter of which RENA didn't even know existed until that point. When all was said, done, and cared for, the two ENAs found themselves basking in the happiness, cuddled close and speaking of how this happiness would be reserved for each other and each other alone.
Looks like ENA truly did take the moment to heart.
"They're beautiful, I couldn't see myself accepting them from anyone but you." RENA whispered, cupping ENA's cheek and reveling in the deep purr the action drew into the open. "I truly am the luckiest woman in the world."
"Not yet, you're not!" Taski shouted, waving a large book around to grab the couple's attention. "We have to get you married first!"
"Taski? You're the officiant?" ENA asked, smirking at Taski's aggressive nod. "Forgive me for my surprise."
"It's okay! Not many know of my holy past times, hnghwgwieyriehwj!" Taski babbled as she climbed onto a step stool to get closer to the ENAs, humming and spreading the book (The Book of Runas, it seemed) open to a marked page. "Everyone here has been to a wedding before, we know the boring words and yadda-yadda! I think we all know these two agree to the Terms and Conditions of their marriage, so let's skip to the vows!"
"Can she do that?" Kane whispered to Froggy.
"Only as long as she's correct in her assumption that these two know what's expected of them out of this marriage." Froggy quietly replied. He waved off any other questions thrown towards him, not wanting to go into Laws during such a lovely ceremony.
"RENA, since you present as the dominant force in this marriage, I will leave it to YOO to decide who goes first!" Taski announced, clapping as RENA silently motioned for ENA to go first. "Alright-y! Whenever you're ready, ENA!"
ENA took a deep breath, composing herself before starting. "RENA, you are perhaps one of the strongest and most inspiring people I've ever met. The way you strive to be better, even when it doesn't seem possible, the way you let your thoughts be known even if it means turning others against you, the way you throw yourself into your work with such enthusiasm and care... Honestly, I think I could keep us here all day speaking of the things I admire about you."
A collective laugh came from the crowd, the sound gorgeous and filling RENA's heart more than she thought possible.
RENA couldn't stop the soft whimper that escaped from her mouth, nor could she stop the tears that streamed down her cheeks. The tears glowed in the artificial lighting of the chapel, making for an almost ethereal sight (in ENA's eyes, anyway). "I love you so much. You're perfection in its purest form, the very thing that keeps me going in this life anymore. No one could compare to your beauty, your heart, your exuberance for life; I will willingly smite anyone who dares try to change a single thing about you. Standing here with the knowledge that I will soon be able to call you mine, it's almost too much. My broken heart heals knowing I get to have you in my life, the rest of it."
"Even then, though, I don't think I could ever come close to letting you know how much I truly love you." ENA swallowed back a whimper, dipping her head slightly for just a moment before continuing. "You entered my life just when I needed it, chose to love me in ways no one else ever could, gave me your heart even after it proved painful... I truly couldn't ask for someone better to be my life partner. If it pleases you, I would be honored to give every bit of my heart and soul to you, to devote every second I can to loving you and supporting you, through the good times and bad. I love you, and I want this marriage to help prove it."
Taski nodded, looking through The Book of Runas before stopping at a certain page and smiling. "ENA, known by the Call Name of Daffodil, born to parents Jonathan and Beverly, do you take the ENA in front of you to be your lawfully wedded wife, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, for as long you both shall exist in and out of code?"
"I do." ENA replied, forcing back another teary hiccup.
"And ENA, known by no existent Call Name, born to parents unmentioned, do you take the ENA in front of you to be your lawfully wedded wife, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall exist in and out of code?"
"I do." RENA replied, her smile genuine and wide.
"Then by the powers vested in me by the counsel of Runas, I now declare you Mates For Life! Kiss your wife! Kiss her NOW!" Taski waved her arms around sporadically, leading on the cheers of the crowd as the couple standing before her did just that. "Praise be to Runas!"
"Praise be to Runas!" The guests cheered, standing from their seats and throwing pixelated flowers into the air.
As the kiss ended, ENA and RENA took a moment to do nothing more than look into each other's eyes, reveling in each other's presence even as the celebration around them grew loud and wild. They kept their gaze until Claire shouted something about eating, which then led the couple to collect their Byte and hold her close as they made their way down the aisle.
"I never would have thought of you as the celebration type." ENA chimed as she and RENA were ushered into a souped up taxi that had a "Just Married!" sign attached to its bumper. "Thank you. This means worlds to me."
"And as such, it means worlds to me as well." RENA replied, pressing a kiss onto ENA's cheek and chuckling as Claire started tugging at the flashy bowtie settled atop RENA's chest. "We're finally a family. A real, perfect family. I never thought I'd be able to experience such happiness in this life."
"It's nice to be proven wrong every now and then." ENA whispered, leaning against RENA and purring just loud enough for her darling to hear.
"It certainly is." RENA agreed, wrapping an arm around ENA and using her free arm to cradle Claire. "Now, let's get to that mess hall! Dinner and dancing awaits!"
"Yay! We can try the Bar-B-Q sauce cake!" Claire cheered, her attention now fixed on that one thought. "Saucy Cake! Saucy Cake! Saucy Cake!"
Neither ENA nor RENA wanted to know what any of that meant before they got to the hall, so both decided to simply stay quiet. Best not to ruin a perfect moment with unconventional cooking, after all.
