A loooong overdue update

I’m back and terrible at keeping up with this blog – sorry! Life got busy, I got lazy, etc etc. I won’t do a full play by play of the last…over 3 months (whoops) but I’ll highlight the biggest things.

Work Things:

I have an ESS Club now! A group of about 6 of my first year girls expressed interest in forming ESS (English Speaking Society) and so far we’ve had several meetings and they’re going great. We’ve watched a movie (the first Harry Potter), made a poster, learned some card games from my high school days (B.S. is totally school appropriate if you don’t teach them that it stands for bullshit) and tried some games.

In June our school also had the cultural festival or 文化祭. It was a lot of fun – the first year students displayed art and a giant mosaic, the second year students organized dance routines by class, and the third year students were in charge of food. I went to a tea ceremony and drew curious stares from many of the parents that were there, but they were all friendly as I did my best to follow along with the proper etiquette. I also ate a ton of food and discovered a love for a Portuguese sweet that came over to Japan called “kasutera”

Non-work things:

I went to a Dragon Boat Festival in my prefecture that spread over two days. There was a ton of food and games set up in stalls, and fireworks the night before the actual races. I also went to an SMTOWN concert at Kyocera Dome, and seeing all of the SMTOWN artists has been a dream of mine for years so it was really really great.

The biggest non-work thing since I’ve been away though is…I went home! It was just for two weeks at the beginning of this month, and I didn’t get to see nearly as many people as I wish I could have, but the time I spent with family was much needed. Also made sure to get my fill of all the foods I missed. I’m back in Japan now for another year, getting ready to start the next term. This year may actually be my last – at least for now. I do really enjoy life here, and I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world, but I’m starting to feel the pull to settle into a more permanent career…and I would like to be closer than 18 hours of travel to my family. We’ll see though – I don’t have to make that decision yet, and it all depends on where there’s work!

I might randomly upload pictures from some of the things I’ve mentioned, and I’m going to try my veryyyyyyy hardest to be better at updating from now on!!! Bye for now, and I’ll be back (soon? Soon.)
