Everything On Purpose

This week has had a hand-crafted feel to it. 

Meaning that everything that’s happened has been far too linear and interconnected to be coincidence. 

God must laugh at how easily amused we are with our own creativity. As a culture, we award our own novels and works of cinema with crown honors for originality. Yet, our most brilliant plots pale in comparison to the story our Creator has had written for us before time even was.

This week, it was one small, singular occurrence that set off a chain of others both good and bad — all connected. And what would usually trigger a week of ungratefulness and complaint before God has turned into thankfulness and a sense of privelege to watch Him work. 

God opened doors for me to share his truth with a complete stranger, support a family member who is hurting both physically and spiritually, gain wisdom from some of my closest friends and armor bearers and those are just the most noteworthy. This week birthed a tiny symphony of God-ordained moments, all stemming from something initially uncomfortable and negative.

I think after 26 years I’ve finally caught a glimpse into the context of what James in the Bible meant when he said, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sister, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perserverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:2-4 NIV)

Another promise of God that has given me great solace through this week’s discourse has been Romans 8:28: “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Talk about the ultimate insurance policy: if God is for me, who can be against me.

And lastly, Proverbs 16:3 gives me hope to know that as long as I’m doing what I’m doing for the glory and renown of God, I can’t fail: ”Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.”

Scripture is promise. I love it.

All in all, this week has taught me that we never do anything that God isn’t aware or in control of and God always does everything on purpose.
