waking up (thinking of what it is to be loved)

“Wei Ying?”

Wei Wuxian groaned as he felt himself being pulled to the surface. He didn’t know where he was or what he had been doing. There was a familiar smell in the air, one that made him feel safe and wanted and loved.

“Wei Ying?” A voice came from beside him. It sounded sad and worried. Wei Wuxian didn’t know who the voice belonged to, but he knew he would do anything to erase the sadness.

He struggled to consciousness, feeling himself settle back into his body, its aches and pains. He gasped in pain as he tried to take a breath.

“Wei Ying, don’t move,” the voice came again. A big, warm hand settled on his forehead, easing the headache he was only just noticing.

“What?” Wei Wuxian asked, struggling to get words through his dry mouth and hoarse throat.

“Are you awake?” The hand travelled down and cupped his cheek, gently stroking along his cheekbone.

“M’awake,” Wei Wuxian sighed.

Lips pressed against his forehead and little drops of water landed in his hair. “I might be more inclined to believe you if you opened your eyes.”

Wei Wuxian tried but his eyelids weighed a thousand pounds each. “Can’t,” he whined.

The hand went back to his forehead before taking long, steady strokes through his hair, gently smoothing out the tangles.

“A-Yuan?” Wei Wuxian asked. He remembered something; someone crying, someone he loved.

“He’s fine,” the voice continued. “He’s worried about you. You didn’t tell anyone you were sick.”

Wei Wuxian pouted. “Fuss.”

The voice sounded amused. “Sometimes people are allowed to take care of you, Wei Ying. You don’t have to take everything on by yourself.”

“Embarrassing,” Wei Wuxian muttered.

The hand left his hair and travelled down his arm, fingers pressing lightly at his wrist and taking his pulse. “How are you feeling?”

Wei Wuxian paused to consider the question carefully. His head ached fiercely and every joint was sore. He felt the strange sort of heaviness that accompanied too many days spent in bed. His throat was raw and his nose was stuffed up. “Sleepy,” he decided.

The hand stilled and pulled away. “Do you want me to leave you alone?”

“No!” Wei Wuxian said quickly, speaking too loud and causing his breath to catch in his throat. He coughed harshly.

Arms pulled him up into a warm embrace. They rubbed his back soothingly until he could catch his breath.

“Where?” Wei Wuxian asked.

“The hospital,” the voice said, hand coming up to cradle the back of his head. The smell surrounded him, reminding him of moments of pure happiness.

“Bad?” Wei Wuxian asked.

“Bad enough.” Arms gripped him tighter, but not enough to impede his breathing.

“Oh,” Wei Wuxian said.

The arms helped him lie back down and hands fluttered around him, shifting the pillows and pulling the blankets up to cover his shoulders. “You’ll be okay.”

“Sorry,” Wei Wuxian said, grasping one of the restless hands and holding tight.

“No need to apologize, Wei Ying,” the voice said softly. “You’re on the mend.”

“Sleepy,” Wei Wuxian said again.

“Will you open your eyes for me, just for a second?” the voice asked.

Wei Wuxian struggled valiantly and finally managed to drag his eyelids open. His husband’s face was in front of him, tired and worried, but with a softness to his mouth, curved in the smile that no one but Wei Wuxian ever got to see. “Lan Zhan.”

probably jon/elias + jon/michael? i was reading through fics chronologically as i listened and i don’t think i was that interested in either pairing until after i’d caught up

either that or... jon/martin, honestly. although that’s less “consider” and more “get actively invested in”

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?

oh that’s a hard one. it was probably the yogscast fandom, which i got into in 2013 and then tapered off from 2015 to 2016 (with a brief resurgence in late 2017)

i seem to average like... a year or two heavily invested in a fandom.

if we’re talking fandoms i didn’t produce anything for but did consume, though, it would probably be the MCU, although i definitely can’t get you solid dates for that. technically doctor who, but i don’t count the 6 years i spent as a fan as a child, before i started engaging with any online fandom

Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?

i feel like the untamed is this for me, even though i’m partway through it, because i don’t really know what’s going on. A:tLA and black sails, definitely

27. favorite activity to do in cold weather?

make tea!! i have *checks pantries* 10 different flavors of tea in my kitchen right now, because come november i start stocking up. there’s something so nice about the ritual of making tea, watching the steam while the floorboards are freezing cold. also, taking walks, because i’m canadian and cold weather is my calling card for hours-long trips to the local ravine, danger be damned.

55. favorite fairy tale?

ahhh this changes by the week but right now i’m cleaning out my old bookshelf so i’m kind of fond of cinderella, or at least the variation on it in my old chinese book of fairy tales.

congrats on catching up :))) (and just in time too omfg that was quick + lucky)

It actually gets easier to catch up on homestuck after Act 6 Act 5 Act 1 x 2. The pace increases a lot for the last couple thousand pages. Openbound was the section which was the slowest, especially since I couldn’t play it while I was at school. Took three days for me, one for each part.
