So I once saw art of Hermes with bloodied wings begging Apollo to take them off, part of the context behind it was apparently (heavy emphasis on apparently—don't quote me on this) in mythology Hermes had back wings at one point but got them ripped off. Apollo tried to fix it but the new wings didn't feel "right"—I think that part was an artistic choice though I'm not sure.
