I spent five hours on this damn thing. Longest I’ve worked before though so I hope it’s really good. Also hope y’all enjoy!
I find Dark Arrow interesting. You’ve got some of Oliver’s core traits still there: he’s motivated by a deep love and an intense loyalty to his ideals. Those things are just horribly perverted and corrupted by a lifetime of indoctrination. You’ve still got Oliver’s temper but with less restraint in how it’s expressed. The way he compartmentalizes grief, seen in the way he responds to Tommy-X’s death (versus how Oliver initially responds to Sara’s death in 3x01). Even some of the darker elements- Dark Arrow saying “I enjoyed hurting your friends” echoes 5x17′s “And I liked it” and has some of the tone of 3x09′s “I was wrong” (when he’s choking Malcolm).
The real Oliver can actually be a lot scarier than Dark Arrow- I maintain, the scariest line delivery in the Arrowverse is Oliver’s “the rest was practice [to become] something else” in 5x17. And that comes from Oliver’s duality and the juxtaposition of what we love about Oliver with his darkness. As opposed to Dark Arrow who has long ago been consumed by darkness, so he doesn’t have the same unsettling aspect to him, or the same fierce passion.
And Dark Arrow also has another really interesting quality to him-- that some interpreted as poor acting but I didn’t-- he’s awkward. He doesn’t have the signature Oliver Queen charm. Dark Arrow has poor social skills- and not in a funny, endearing way, in an offputting, serial killer-esque way. So he makes these grandiose statements, and he banters oddly, and everything about him is stiff. Because Oliver, grew up a socialite, popular, flirtatious, a billionaire playboy, and went on to have little found families scattered around the world, and was put in positions where he had to cultivate his leadership skills, and his ability to lie and disguise himself. Dark Arrow had none of that. He was born to training and indoctrination and being made into a weapon and a militant force. He’s a tool for his regime before he’s a person.
It’s fascinating, the ways that he is like Oliver and the ways he is not, and the reflections of their different histories that you can see. And the way that they maintain that balance while still making Dark Arrow evil in a way that is wholly worse than even the incredibly dark moments we’ve seen from our Oliver.
Im not sure why but the romance between evil arrow and evil supergirl disgusts me
I literally forgot about Evil Kara and Oliver.

How to start my birthday the right way? By watching Arrow. How not to start my birthday the right way? By watching Arrow's new episode.

But my evil story heart is just too excited about this direction to really care. Evil story Steve.
Oliver fake killed Diggle and I could have lived my whole life without that image. Thanks Arrow.
