So I ended up finishing these sketches today, not sure why. But it’s done now regardless
I decided I wanted to try and redesign Solus since I’ve decided he’s a party member now, and also because in trying to actually figure out the world of Evoland 2.5, his general lore is so far the only one that I know won’t have to be changed in doing so. So you know, he’s easier than other characters
I also ended up drawing his mom too since I really liked how Solus 2 turned out and I still had half a page left. Also, she’s a more important character now
I don’t really have much to say on the Solus designs because as mentioned, I think I generally got it down with the 2nd one. The only things that may need tweaking are his outfit colors and a bit of his hair, but otherwise, I think he makes a good standard to go off of
With his mother however, I don’t think I’ve figured it out yet. I think the 2nd one looks better, but it’s still not what I want. I think the main things causing me issues are her bangs, horns and general colors
I tried to give her the same swept back hair as Solus, but it never looked right, and maybe the horn shape had something to do with why I was struggling? I’m not sure. She’s not supposed to have the same horn shape as Solus, but I can’t figure out a good shape to make them
I also struggle with her hair in general, because I’m not sure what exactly I want it to look like, other than the fact that she has those side parts. Maybe I need more references
And speaking on her colors, I think maybe adhering to her original intended color scheme, as well as sticking so close to Solus’, is hurting her design overall. The orange hair works on Solus with his dark purple skin, but I can’t get it to look so good on his mother, at least with her lighter skin tone. I was able to make things work with Glaucus, his dark purple working with the light blue of his hair, but I’m struggling with the warmer colors on her. Maybe I need to make her colors a bit more unique
Somewhat related, you’ll notice she doesn’t have freckles like her original, that’s because I realized the golden freckles just don’t look good on her lighter skin tone, so now that’s a Glaucus trait, though his are a different color. I’ll drop a little bit of lore here, in my head Demon freckles are different colors from their skin entirely, unlike human freckles which are generally just a darker tone. Solus’ gold freckles are pretty rare though
But back to design things, one other thing I wanted to mention was that I had more specific references for the outfits here, mainly the da gua and daopao. From what I understand, these are outfits in Taoism, so I thought it would fit best for these guys, since they’re the closest to the Future Demons. Though I don’t plan on doing exact one to ones though, they’re just generally based on these clothes
But overall, like I said, Solus I think turned out well, but his mom needs more work
Also, they need new names; Solus’ mom doesn’t even have one. I had an idea of maybe naming them after famous old poets, to contrast Menos’ mythical king naming, but I might struggle with that in the female department. I know old female poets existed, but it’s a much shallower pool
Solus at least I’m considering naming after Dante (even if technically that’s a couple millennia too recent), though I’m unsure how to tweak the name as Evoland does, outside of maybe Dantes. We’ll see I guess
Oh yeah, I also meant to go into a tangent about figuring out Solus’ new personality, since he’s no longer an NPC linked to Juno but a completely separate party member, so I have to now change him to stand out more, and the struggles of figuring out what his deal is now, but I think this is getting a bit long already, I’ll just leave it as this
But I should probably give at least a little lore for these two. So Solus’ mother is one of the custodians of the Sacred Temple/Temple of Menos, and as it happens, a direct descendant of the Demonia Royal Family, which also makes Solus one. Due to her status, she has extensive knowledge of information collected by her ancestors from before the Great Flood, including powerful ancient magic, but she also never really leaves the Temple either, as she’s meant to maintain and protect it, and because her knowledge is too valuable to risk someone abducting her out in the open. Solus was one of the few modern Demons to be born and raised in the Temple, and he chooses to learn their ways out of a sense of connection with his mother, though he’s not as skilled as she was, something he’s a bit self conscious about
Oh and also, one last thing to say here is that despite how it looks in the art, Solus is the one completely blind while his mother has perfectly normal eyesight, she’s just one of those characters who almost always has closed looking eyes
Okay this took way longer than I feel it should have, but I have it now
So context as to why I made this, I was drawing Menos earlier (I’ll hopefully finish it tomorrow), and while at work I had the idea to just chart out this entire family tree of the Demonia Royal Family that I have now created
I originally made it on Procreate, but I also made it in 15 minutes during my break, and it doesn’t look very good, or at the very least it could look better than it does
So I went searching for a way to make a family tree online, and after probably an hour of looking, I found this site draw.io and I managed to finally get what I want
But yeah Christ I’ve gone a bit wild with expanding this family. Only 7 of these characters are actually canon. Though regardless, this exists now as a simple way to explain all these OCs I’ve made, at least those who are directly related to Menos
And since I can never seem to get Phobos’ design down to talk about her lore anyways, I might as well ramble about it here, as well as the rest of the family lore? Though technically you get all the essential info here
So firstly, a minor note, all the names with question marks are still up in the air and liable to change, I just thought I should add some potential names for certain characters. Though I'll admit, I use way too many Greek names, and not enough 1-letter variations
Also the Menos/Velvet relationship is ??? because what their relationship is depends on whether we're following the game's canon, or if this is an AU where either Menos and Velvet get to live in Demonia together or like 2.5 Ceres' birth has completely different circumstances altogether. Everyone else basically stays the same regardless (outside of Reno's line between timelines 1 and 2 that is), so it's just a them thing. Only real consistent thing is that they're likely legally unmarried, making Ceres illegitimate
And one final note, but a headcanon I came up with as I first made all these characters is that in Demon society, the mothers choose the names of their children. This mainly comes down to the fact that so many of these characters end up sharing their naming schemes with their moms. Yuga and her daughters are all named after the Yuga cycle, Reno and Scarlet are named after FF7 characters, and while Arthus and Menos share the mythical king names, I imagine Phobos and Daimos to have a family thing of always ending names with "-os", as seen with their sons. But then their father, whether his name be Mars or Ares, doesn't follow that pattern, so this must be a thing they also got from their mother. And at that point, I may as well just make it a rule rather than say its all coincidence
But anyways, on to lore, starting with Arthus, Phobos, and their parents. So because I named Phobos and Daimos after the sons of Ares, I decided that not only are they twins, but their father was an accomplished general. I don't know if there were any major wars he fought in, since we don't really know Evoland 2 history that far back, but it was enough for him to be very reputable. Also, this implies that the general is not always a royal like we see with Menos
Anyways, because he was so reputable, and because he had two daughters who happened to be of similar age to the current Demonian prince Arthus, his father the king decided to betroth the elder daughter, Phobos, to his son, thus bringing Mars' lineage into the royal line. This probably happened when Phobos and Arthus were either children or young teenagers, so there was plenty of time to adjust before they got married
As for Daimos, she largely exists because I like to headcanon Matchos and Menos as cousins, but specifically maternal since I don't recall Matchos or Lousos ever being referred to by royal titles. But given her sister was married off to the prince, I imagine her eventual husband to also be of reasonably high standing, though he's not very important for my purposes. He's just here to make sure the brothers exist
Also as for Phobos by the time of Evoland 2, she's still around when the Great War starts, just back in Demonia. She ends up dying in Timeline 1, but she survives in Timeline 2 thanks to Menos' efforts to try and stop Magus (he helped at least a couple of his people survive at least), and lives some years longer with Reno until age finally claims her
So now we move down to Menos and Scarlet. I've talked about Scarlet previously, how she and Menos were married for political purposes, based on the only shred of potential evidence about Menos' previous love life. I've expanded on it a bit more to say that her father (or maybe mother, idk) ruled over a section of the country (I still don't know a lot about how medieval governance worked, but a little bit more than before), likely in the east, that while part of Demonia, was somewhat disconnected from the king's rule due to distance. But Arthus and this ruler were able to forge a stronger connection, and the two's children, Scarlet and Lord Menos, were engaged in a marriage alliance
Now I want to briefly touch on Scarlet's married life and the differences between her and Phobos' engagement. While Phobos and Arthus had also been arranged, this had been done years before their eventual marriage, so both had time to get used to the arrangement, and even before then their parents were in frequent contact, so they were as well and basically grew up together. Not only that, but Mars' position meant that Phobos grew up in the capital and was very familiar with Demonia Castle
Meanwhile, Scarlet and Menos did not meet until they were adults, outside of potentially very formal events, and it wasn't very long until they were engaged. Not only that, but Scarlet was very unfamiliar with the capital as it was so unlike her birthplace. So while she and Menos were able to get along fine enough, they were never particularly in love with one another, and while Scarlet liked the rest of her new family fine, she generally didn't enjoy her life in the capital as princess
None of that was really that relevant to the family tree, it's just been stewing in the back of my mind and I felt like sharing
Unfortunately, things still don't go well for Scarlet, because while Reno was still an infant, she ended up dying due to unexpected illness. A real shame too since she genuinely loved her son, and their mutual affection for Reno was bringing her and Menos closer together, and it seemed like she was finally becoming a bit happier. But she has to die so that Menos isn't a cheater in Evoland 2 times. She at least got to be buried back in her homeland, as that was a last request of hers
But in any case, now we move on to Reno, Timeline 2 only. And technically this is more for my 2.5 story specifically, but it still fits in fine enough
So Yuga here (who is named after the Yuga cycle her daughters all take their names from), unlike previous generations, doesn't come from any prestigious or noble family line, her parents were relatively normal people from a normal village. I mean given her name, they might have been a family that practiced more mystical arts, but still, nothing much special. In fact, if the Great War had never happened, Yuga and Reno probably wouldn't have ever met. But because of the Great War and the widespread destruction of Demonia, all the surviving Demons ended up coalescing in the remains of the Capital, which is how the two were able to meet
And given the full-scale destruction, most of the social systems in Demonia ended up giving way as well, since now the main focus of the Demons is merely survival. So Reno didn't have to strategically marry, making his and Yuga's marriage far more of the typical marriage of love than the rest of his family. I don't have much on Yuga though, I haven't thought about her much
And then there's not any further generations after their kids, so I'll just give what few relevant details I have on them
Kali's older than her sisters by a good number of years, and chances are one batch was an accident, I just haven't decided which. Though despite which was planned, the triplets being triplets was definitely a surprise, and after that Yuga and Reno agreed to not test fate again with more kids. I kind of wonder what Menos' reaction to having four whole granddaughters would be, but that probably requires specific time fuckery to make possible
Kali is also much stronger than her sisters Maana wise (though probably also physically, since she's got the closest build to Menos in her family), which I haven't quite figured out an explanation for, other than at the time she would have come around, Reno was gathering a lot of Maana, similar to how he does in Present Era 1, for some specific purpose, though I have no clue what, outside of maybe to raise the Temple of Menos into the sky
Oh and for those who don't remember why Kali has that given title, it's because she was ruler during the Great Flood, and she was working herself to the bone using her Maana to keep her people safe and able to sustain themselves, meaning she was barely able to actually rule. So her sisters decided to help shoulder some of this burden by dealing with the ruling themselves as a trio, which ultimately led to Demons taking on a more oligarchal structure than their original monarchal one, which soon after doesn't even require members to be of royal blood. But technically this title goes to Kali specifically since she was the last monarch and it happened because of her, circumstances notwithstanding
And that's about it lore wise. I know it's a lot, but at the same time, I'm covering like 5 generations, so there's going to be a lot. Heck I'd say I restrained myself somewhat
I didn't really need to make all this, but I felt the need to, so hopefully you can enjoy this lore dump at least
Made a thing with two of my Evoland 2.5 characters, the parents of Dantes, because yesterday I was listening to a song (Lost at Sea by Zedd) that half reminds me of them, or at least at one point it helped me make a bit of lore for them
I think you can maybe tell that I envisioned this picture originally as more of a sketch, so it makes the unfinished pose look weird with the more detailed background. Sorry about that, I really have to start drawing more of bodies again one of these days. I can show you a version without the extra stuff if that’s better
Oh also, the pose was referenced from one of @albanenechi’s references, though as usual, not quite as it originally looked. I had other contenders for poses, but this is what I ended up with
I’d say overall it’s good, but could probably be better, and I wonder if my ill-fitting choice of extra shading hinders it in that way
As for the characters, they’re specifically supposed to be young adults in this picture, so not their canon designs, but at the very least Glaucus has gotten a partial redesign
I gave him freckles since now Dantes gets his from his dad, though because his freckles were blue, it meant that his hair color had to change, and eventually I settled for the lighter blue you see
Also unfortunately, I’m still stumped on Dantes’ mother’s name. I feel like she should be named after a female philosopher or writer, but I don’t know who. Also I’m considering tweaking Glaucus’ name to be Glaukos, just for fun
Anyways, now for context. So Glaukos is a fisherman, and Dantes' mother is a Temple Keeper, and these have been their roles for practically their entire lives, or at least in the latter case, she was always intended to take on that role. But because taking care of the Temple and learning its deepest knowledge is so valuable, Keepers like her aren't really supposed to leave the Temple, at least not for any extended periods of time, and when she was younger, she had a desire to see more of the world
By this point, she and Glaukos were already seeing each other. His seabound lifestyle was one of the things that enamored her, and one day she decided to run away with him instead of being cooped up in the Temple like her family intended. However, she eventually realized that while she didn't like the restraints on where she could go, she really did enjoy her duties and the knowledge at the Temple and ultimately decided she wanted to go back home to become a full-fledged Keeper. Glaukos brought her back because he understood how she wasn't really happy living this way with him, even if he wasn't the problem. But they still ended up staying together even to this day
They're actually not even married, mainly because they feel it's unnecessary as a "proof" of their love, and it's not really like there's any tax benefits when they live in different regions and Dantes' mother doesn't really need money anyways
And yeah, that's probably about it. This lore isn't really important, but I drew this for the vibes more than anything
So, something I've been thinking about doing, mainly since yesterday, is redoing/actually finishing my old ideas for the families of the Evoland 2 cast, or at least the family members we don't see. The intended list is Menos' wife, Menos' mom, Fina's mom, both of Velvet's parents, and then Kuro's mom (I don't feel like giving him a dad, she's a single mother)
But right now, the main one I find myself struggling with is Fina's mom, and just what to do with her
Granted, most of them aren't super fleshed out, or at least the ones that aren't related to Menos. It's a bit comical how in my notes today, they have actual character things written down, meanwhile I have only the most basic of ideas for the others, not even concrete names. Granted, this is because I created Scarlet on her own last year and then I got inspiration for Phobos (that's his mom's name, explanation in the final product) just last night, but still
But back to the point, with all the others, I at least have some bare-bone ideas down, but with Fina's mom, I don't have anything
I mean, I used to have ideas when I first attempted this last year. Her name was Fiona (which I might keep tbh, it still works), and she was supposed to be alive, she just wasn't relevant to the game's story, hence why she was never mentioned. She was also blonde to explain Fina's lighter hair color, even if she got the green from her dad (I like to think his hair is just very dark green)
But I'm not entirely sure if she's alive now? I mean, we don't know, there's basically nothing mentioned about Fina's mom. But like, we never see her, and I double-checked in Nibiru, but Fina's house only has two 1-person beds, which implies that only Fina and Finrost live there, which can very well imply that she's dead, especially since Fina's mom is never pointed out in the village. But at the same time, when Fina's freaking out about her village being gone, she says "my parents", so maybe they're just separated or something? I don't know
But aside from her status of living, I don't really know what to do for her, especially if she's dead. Because like, everything we know about Fina's background has to do with her dad/dad's side of the family, and if she died when Fina was young, then Fina might not even be a potential basis for what her personality might've been. And all of Fina's more peculiar traits seem to again come from that side of her family, so there's nothing to attribute to her mother. Was Fina's mom just a normal lady in Nibiru, was there anything particularly of note about her? I really don't know where to go here
I'm not even sure if she should stay blonde, since Fina gets her hair color from her grandma. Though looking at the sprites, Fina's hair is lighter and more yellow-ish than the Sylphs', so maybe she can still be blonde. But I'm not sure anymore, and my brain's conjuring up the idea of her hair being lavender instead, or maybe a lighter brown
The only thing I can maybe potentially attribute to Fina's mom is this one shelf in Fina's house which says it contains "alchemy instruments, mushrooms and butterflies", and then the game asks who could use those things. We don't know who these belong to, but I don't think they belong to Fina (we never hear anything about her messing with alchemy, and she hates mushrooms. The butterflies could be hers though), and while they could belong to Finrost, we don't know if he does alchemy or anything of the sort. And also, if there's something I can possibly attribute to Fina's other parent, I'm gonna take that opportunity. So maybe I could make Fina's mom an alchemist? I'm not sure
But yeah, I'm just here to complain about my struggles on this one character in particular, and maybe if one feels so inclined, maybe get a couple suggestions of what I might do for her, because I have no idea; we know nothing, so anything goes, and I cannot narrow that down
I was just drawing this concept, I’m still not sure if I want to do much with it
So basically, it’s been an idea semi percolating in my head to make another kid for Menos and Velvet. Specifically, this came from the fact that I’ve noted that Menos’ kids look so little like him, so the idea was to make one that just looks like a smaller Menos. The genes just came in at full force. But then later, when I made the post about forgetting that Ceres is half human, I realized that I should probably add in some non Demon features too
I only made him yesterday because I was bored at work, and I couldn’t think of what else to draw. And I thought he turned out pretty good, so I translated him into digital drawings
I would show you the original picture, but it was drawn exclusively in pencil, and it’s on a darker cardboard sheet, so it’s practically impossible to capture on photo. I just really liked how the pencil sketch came out (my manager came in during my break and sharpened my pencil, so it was darker and less blunt), and I didn’t want to potentially ruin it with my somewhat shaky pen, and I had bright light so I didn’t realize it wouldn’t show with a darker lighting
It also kind of screwed me over when I was trying to translate into the digital sketch (that would be the top left), since it was night time, and I only had my lamp light. So it looks weird, but I had the basic appearance down, and I could refine it now, which is what I did on the top right
But yeah, I guess we talk about design things
So his hair style mostly comes from one of Velvet’s concept hairs, and I thought it works as an in between for Velvet and Menos
But I do wonder if it looks too different from Velvet’s final hair, and if I couldn’t have came up with something more unique for him. But moving on
The non Demon features I decided on are him not having horns, as well as having shorter ears than Demons, though they’re still pointed. Also I had the pink nose originally, but I took it out to make it less similar. I also wanted to give him black sclera, but make his eyes blue like his mom. Though I made it brighter because the regular color didn’t feel right
I also wanted to give him the bicolor, but I’m still working on what his secondary color should be. I asked on Discord, and the pink he has in the top right was what we settled on, but Velvet has pink secondary hair color already, so I debated going back to the dark blue, which is what I did on the bottom. I still don’t know which I should stick to honestly
I’m also not sure if I should give him glasses or not. I think it looks fine, I just haven’t decided on it. He does for now though, and I made it a different shape from Velvet’s as well
Overall, I think he succeeds at looking like Menos while not being a complete clone. I was drawing him, and I think he’s like a softer Menos
But I also wonder if I’m playing it too safe
With the kids in Evoland 2, while I may say that Reno and Ceres don’t look like their dad, I think the designs really succeed in having them look similar to their parents, but while being very much distinct. They are not copies of their parents, they’re their own people
Ceres I think is an excellent example of that. You can tell who her parents are by her design if you look hard enough, but she’s different enough that she looks her own person. It may be in part to aid in the twist about her heritage, but the final product really does exemplify this
And it’s like, by comparison, I feel like I’m not doing enough, like he looks too similar, too obvious who his parents are, and that I’m not being creative enough
Maybe I'm being too harsh on myself, considering the point of this character is that he's supposed to look super similar to his dad, but I feel like I'm not doing enough
It also doesn't really help that I don't know what to do with his character. I have an idea of him being more book smart, and/or he deals more in politics than any sort of fighting, but I feel like maybe it's still too similar to Velvet or something. Like he should be something entirely unique, but I don't know what
And by proxy, this goes for his outfit. I can't really make an outfit without knowing the general idea of the character (at least most times), so I don't know what'd be good there. I just slapped something together on the bottom left
I know this character likely wouldn't feasibly ever exist (I mean, maybe he could, and he was born right before Ceres was taken or something, but it's unlikely still). In my head, he'd exist in some alternate timeline where we had another ending after the canon ending, where we destroy the Project, the timeline no longer loops, and everyone can go home or something, with Velvet and Menos getting together and living in Demonia with their kids (still unsure if they'd be going to the Past or Present, since Fina and Kuro would be going to the Present). Also, the Ceres we know died, but she was born again in this new ending and doesn't get kidnapped. So, like, this kid would in context be the 3rd kid of Menos, 2nd kid of Velvet's, and a prince in Demonia, or what remains of the country as Menos tries to rebuild it, and his life is mostly normal outside of that
I also really don't know what to name him. Maybe I give him a Roman god name like his sister? Or make it a Greek god maybe? Or a mythical king like his dad and grandpa? I'm not sure. A concept in my head is maybe he's named after his grandpa, being Arthus II, but that feels uncreative
Note as I'm finishing this, the name Janus popped into my head. Maybe that could work?
Hmm, I don't really know what else to say honestly. I think I had other points, but I don't know how to work them in
I guess the point of this was, here's this concept I've been working on, I want to show off completed work but also I don't really know what I'm doing with it
He probably needs more refining in his character, but I don't really have ideas to work with either. It'll be a struggle, and that's if I choose to continue with him

I had a thing (back when I was definitely going to give him a gun) where he’s basically like, “oh yeah trust me, I‘ve been shot at plenty” and shows off his arm scars. They’re mostly just from guards trying to catch him as he runs. He’s got more, those are just the ones on his arms

He’s in a more Chibi style based off of Cookie Run because I’ve forgotten how to draw humans and I had to go with this if I wanted to get a design down
This is an Evoland character I made up Sunday after listening to too much Fearless Hero from Puss in Boots
For context, the idea for him is that he’s like a folklore hero that has songs about him, and one of my characters for a hypothetical Evoland 3, Jovi, was supposed to sing about him (I made this guy up because the idea was Jovi’d sing some version of Fearless Hero but about some other hero, and I decided to finally give them an identity). He was real, but as a folklore hero from the distant future, he’s not really from any set time in the series, whether you’re talking about Evoland 2 or my hypothetical Evoland 3
Since he’s largely based off Puss in Boots, at least in demeanor, I wanted to call him Antonio, because Antonio Banderas, but I’ll be honest, he looks more like an Ashley to me, so that’s his name
So what his whole deal is and what makes him special is that he isn’t demon or human, rather half and half. Like Ceres, but he comes much later in the timeline, where there are more, so he doesn’t steal her thunder. But they’re still pretty discriminated against, as some still see them as a freak of nature. Ashley though, does not care in the slightest, and frankly, he loves being himself. Instead of seeing himself as someone who doesn’t belong anywhere, he sees himself as one of a kind. Dude’s got a major ego
Also unlike Ceres (and another character of mine, Holly), Ashley has a demon mother and human father. With his design I wanted to reflect his hybrid nature, with him having pink skin (I felt it was a good compromise between human skin and purple skin), and having bright blond hair; a hair color not found in demons, but also far too vibrant to be a normal human color. Also giving him the black sclera of demons, but blue eyes like a human. Also in giving him asymmetrical horns (he has another one, you just can’t see it under his hair, it’s pretty small. Also I kind of forgot to draw it)
Again, his personality is mainly based off Puss in Boots, or at least how he’s portrayed in the opening of The Last Wish, being very egotistical and loving danger, going town to town helping the common folk, while getting in trouble with authorities. He’s also considered pretty attractive, even if he’s considered a freak; calls it his “devilish charm”. He’s almost always seen smiling, you know unless he knows he’s in trouble, but even then he tries to play it off and use his charisma to get out of situations. He’s also quite a bit of flirt, though I’ll be honest I’m not sure whether to make him pan or ace. I feel like it should be one of the two, but I don’t know which idea is better
He’s also an incredible fighter, being capable of seemingly impossible feats (some of it is exaggerated in stories, but not all of it). I imagine he carries a sword, but also maybe guns? I’ve even considered changing the guns for fire magic, since it’s not ludicrous he has it. And whenever he comes to town, you can always expect a musical number from him and his guitar. Some of the songs about him are of his own composition, and some of those are altered so they’re less first person and more third person
I wanted to keep him as just a character in song, but also my brain wants to put him in the team and replace him with Rowan, and thus needing to humanize him, so to speak. I’m not sure I’m going to do that as he’s still considered like a living legend, and so he might be a bit jarring, but who knows
If I were to humanize him, the thing I have is that while he loves the limelight and wouldn’t change anything about himself and his life, he does feel lonely, as while people love him for being the daring hero or for his boldness or uniqueness, people don’t really love him for him, if that makes sense. They like the legendary hero, not the person. Yes, his family loves him, but they’re basically the only ones, and he doesn’t live with them, so he basically lives his life ultimately alone, even if he’s surrounded by other people.
He’s a very expressive person. I want to do like an expression page with him, though I’ll probably just use Puss in Boots as my reference
