Week Fourteen - My Choice
I think what most captured my attention throughout this course is how design has evolved, and all of the thinking that goes behind products. I have always wondered where things came from or how events came to be or even how words mean certain things. It all seems so interesting to me and so by learning about the history of design I was trying to look for examples throughout my daily life that enhanced my learning. In design a lot of things stem off of each other to become more adaptive and modern. For example, the curvature in buildings many decades ago, now symbolizes the curved stairs that many people have in their house.
I do not have any questions about design vs. art because I feel that was covered really well in the beginning of the semester which allowed me to not get confused and to always think on the right track.
Overall, I now think deeper about products around my house or things that I pass as I am driving down the street. I think about how it correlates to design and all of the thought processes that went in behind it. I also feel like I understand more about design when talking about interior design, architecture, typography, and more. When I first started this course, I thought that design was just a way to appeal to people's wants in a specific way. However, I now realize that design is way more than that, and ranges from a profession, an experience, a form of communication, and more. I feel that my main takeaway of this class is knowing that design is anything with a goal, which is always advancing in order to satisfy the intended audience desires.
I think that since this class is correlated to gen-eds that one of the projects we do is to look into how our intended career path is related to design. I feel like this would be a fun and insightful way to not only see how we are going to make an impact in the future, but also how we will enhance design.
