This week I found out that I have a brain tumor. It’s a type of bone tumor that’s growing behind my sinus on my trigeminal nerve root. I am in constant pain. The numerous symptoms it’s causing are excruciating. I am struggling each day just to manage daily living activities. I’m permanently disabled, and I deal with numerous other chronic illnesses.
I’ve been battling Trigeminal Neuralgia for over eight years. I was finally diagnosed two years ago. Trigeminal Neuralgia the most painful condition known to humankind. I had a craniotomy two years ago with the surgeon’s promise of a cure. The surgery failed. The knowledge that I am facing more brain surgery is devastating. I saw a local neurosurgeon this week who is nervous about doing any surgery himself because of the precarious location of my tumor. I am being referred to one of the top Trigeminal Neuralgia surgeons in the country at Oregon Health and Science University.
I am terrified and alone in this. I do not have a good support network here in Eugene because of how difficult my illnesses make it to seek a social life. I depend solely on my financial aid to survive, this includes paying for my rent, groceries, medical bills, and transportation. This surgery will require at least one term of recovery time. That will put me in a very bad position without the financial aid to pay my bills. I am in fear of losing my housing, food, and all ability to sustain myself through this horrible situation.
Receiving this funding would allow me to have my surgery without the fear of becoming homeless. It would allow me time to heal and then return to my studies to finish my degree. I’m only a year away from completing my Bachelor of Science in Art and Biology. Anything will help. I cannot do this alone and no one should ever have to.
