From Paris to Berlin
3 months ago I moved from Paris to Berlin. There has been a lot going on in the past year in Paris on the street art scene. Even if graffiti is completely prohibited there, I have seen some amazing graffiti pieces in Paris, London, Bristol and Brighton. I mean, a strong style research and creativity. Berlin, is different. First thing I noticed is the feeling of freedom...there is tags everywhere...great street art pieces... they are not cleaned up like in Paris. They are part of the city soul. Berlin was divided by a wall for 28 years (1961-1989). And what do you do with a wall...?? of course you write on it...maybe it is the reason for graffiti tolerance here. Graffiti I see here is completely different from the one in Paris. It seems more old school to me. Huge slogans or simple tags, very often written very high on buildings. I have a feeling it is not about style here but about freedom of expression. Berlin, is a city with graffiti soul.
