theoryofswag suggested a text for the earlier experiment that I thought pertinent enough to the project's subject matter that it was worth trying, too:

"Richard P. Feynman said, To those who do not know mathematics, it is difficult to get across a real feeling as to the beauty, the deepest beauty, of nature."

The notes this time encouraged a major key, and the tempo's a bit higher, as well as some additional orchestration in the midsection. Enjoy, and, as always, feedback is welcomed.

In response to the earlier post, misterchu submitted the text:

"A bag is packed. The man being left tries to save himself by allowing his life to tumble across his lips. All of his stories fall out, irrelevancies, laundry lists & places to park on the Southside of Chicago. This is everything he thinks, so little."

The melody in this piece is note for note a representation of that text (with the single exception of replacing the ampersand with the word 'and'), derived via the methods discussed in earlier posts. Enjoy.

Earlier today, in a bout of boredom, I blended together a couple of earlier experiments of mine that made it possible to turn any piece of text into some form of music. Details on methodology are available in that post and the two it references.

The point of this post is to make an offer. Insomnia's going strong and I can tell this will most likely be another sleepless night, so to give myself something to do beyond pace and stare at the walls, as I'm caught up with work: the first person to send me a non-anonymous ask requesting it will get such a song from their choice of text. You may include your chosen text in your initial ask, or send a second with it if you'd rather wait to see if yours is the first message. The text should be at least one medium length sentence, but no more than one Ask; limit it (for now) to the basic Roman/English alphabet, and only the period and/or comma for punctuation. The choice of style, tempo and instrumentation will be mine, but the music itself will be the text sent.

A proof of concept. Idle and a bit bored this morning, I thought to combine two earlier experiments, and so produced this brief piece. Using the concepts discussed in my post on Borges' "Library of Babel" of a couple of weeks ago, I encyphered a simple sentence into its integer representation; and using the methods I employed last July to produce a song from the digits of the mathematical constant of Euler’s γ, I turned that number into this bit of piano.

It is nothing spectacular, just, as above, a proof of concept to show that any piece of text can be expressed as music.
