Though @abstract-challenge wanted lights, triangles and circles I got hearts and horizontal lines or to be precise curved lines, I hope that instead of triangles hearts will work for the challenge

~How to write an exam paper~
Most students in my major stared writing exam papers this semester and many of my friends asked me for advice for them. Since at least some of you seemed to be interested in a little help I decided to share a few tips my tutor gave me in my first semester of university. Here you go! :)
1. Decide for a topic early
This seems obvious but deciding on a topic to write about isn’t as easy as it sounds. Most of our teachers want to have some kind of exposé a few weeks before our seminars end, where we write down what topic we want to write about, which points we want to make and the literature we want to use. This gives you the chance to find problems (like not enough literature, not related to what’s the class is about, too or not specific enough etc) early and to fix them by changing the topic or asking the teacher for help.
2. Find literature
Every university and every major has different sites on where to find specific literature. In some, like history, it is more than in others. Though they are really practical I must admit that I often only use the library search of our university libraries, but if they are really convenient, trust me. If you have the possibility to borrow books from other universities via the library system (here it is called Fernleihe) get you books early! Our students can borrow books from all over northern Germany and most books need about 4 weeks till they arrive. Keep this time in mind, you have only so much time to actually write the paper!
The more books the better and for non-english speaking countries are a few English books even better than that. Also articles look good. Try a variety of media.
At last: Wikipedia: I know, Wikipedia is not source material and every teacher will lynch you if you do cite it, BUT it’s a great way to get a hang off what your topic is about. Also nice are the footnotes under the articles. They can offer you some literature you wouldn’t find over your libraries. Check if they are citeable though!
3. Write the paper
You want to know how to write your paper in the short short time? Write your structure first. Then write your note right inside the structure, with footnotes and all. After that you can bring your books back into the library in time without compiling them for weeks at home. Now all you have to do is to make a running text out of your notes. This only takes a few days and gives you the ability to write even more then one paper in the same short short time. (For my classes I usually have to write 15 to 20 pages in 8 weeks. That’s hard to do if your books need 4 weeks to be delivered!)
Write your introduction and conclusion at the end when your paper is finished. This way you can make sure that they match each other and the paper between. With the right wording you can expand your paper by a page if you need it. Otherwise keep it short.
4. Let others read it
Before you turn the paper in let other people read. A second or third pair of eyes sees more than you alone. Make sure that people outside the topic understand what you want to say and that your sentences doesn’t sound weird. Correct all spelling mistakes and the like and you’re ready to go.
5. A few tips
- Don’t wait until the last day to turn in your paper.
- check not only the text but also the footnotes and the sources at the end of the paper
- make sure your teacher get’s your paper. If you have to throw it into a letterbox at your teachers office write down the date on it and send your teacher an email so they know that you actually turned it in and when.
- don’t forgot to sign the statement of authorship
- turn on the right settings in your writing program (hyphenation, justification etc)
- put it into a tidy folder or bind it
I hope this little study guide will be a help for you!
Currently writing my Japanese history exam paper, so I won't be that active until I have finished writing it. I'll be back at posting more after Christmas! 🎄 I hope you will stick with me until then! ❤
