hi there! i'm going to a massive fandom event thing, and my friends are all dressing up as certain fandoms, but i'm not really in any fandoms. i was just wondering if you had any ideas for things i could dress up as? <3
oook then, lets do this. i suppose it depends on how convenient you want your outfit to be and also whether or not you want it to be recognisable (i’m assuming you do). oh and just for my sake i’m gonna assume that this functions is kinda like a convention (not that i’ve been to one of those either)
the best way i can do this is just to make a list of 5 fandoms ranking them easiest to most difficult (in my humble opinion)1) Teen Wolf - it has a high school setting so most of the outfits are super easy and consist of jeans and hoodies (for the guys at least), however, this means that it won’t be very recognisable unless you have an actual Teen Wolf hoodie (with last names on the back etc.) or maybe the school lacrosse outfit. there’s also the downside that it isn’t one of the most recognised shows so you might not be easily recognised.2) I’d have to say Supernatural - one of the big three fandoms on tumblr, the outfits are relatively simple, apart from some aspects like the Samulet and some others. Downsides? … well, other than Sam, Dean, Cas and Bobby, there aren’t many other characters that are instantly recognised by people not in the fandom, also, Supernatural cosplays tend to be done in groups are at least in pairs (usually Sam and Dean). Depending on the gathering, you could do something like a human!Impala which would be quite easy (basically, dress in black and look badass) or you could be an essentially random person with demon eyes or one of the other supernatural things they have faced at some point3) hmmm, Sherlock. - there are some characters in Sherlock that can be super easy like John, Molly, and Moriarty; whilst Sherlock may require a bit more time and money. Pros of this one would be that because Sherlock has just ended, it will be fresh on people minds and you will probably get recognised more, downsides would be that, like Supernatural, you may need to be in a group with 1 or more person/s to do it with you.
4) Doctor Who - Another easily recognised fandom, this one may be difficult and would require more effort as each doctor has a unique outfit. however, assuming this is like a convention, there will most likely be other people dressed up as the Doctor and you could go as one of the companions (here's some) and basically use that as an excuse to meet new people. If that’s no your aim than that’s totally fine, there are some pretty weird things in Doctor Who i mean, you could go as Toby from The Impossible Planet (this dude, if you’re into makeup than it would be perfect)5) Last but not least, Harry Potter - one of the most, if not the most, recognised fandoms ever. Whilst it is super recognisable, it’s also pretty difficult without the costume or any merch. one of the best things about it is that its so recognisable but also that you don’t necessarily need to go as a canon character, if you have the uniform, you go to Hogwarts, no questions asked. unfortunately, not all of us own the uniform which sucks major hairy balls. if you really want to do Harry Potter though, you could go as someone like Bellatrix Lestrange who i imagine would be really fun to dress up as (sorry if you don’t have dark hair, i do so that’s what i’m going with. you could also go as Narcissa Malfoy as a light-haired alternative seeing as they have a [vaguely] similar dress style)welp, there’s my list however, remember that you can totally go as another fandom, not just the main ones. you can totally go as some thing from Lord of the Rings, How I Met Your Mother, Disney, Dreamworks, James Bond, The Avengers etc. etc. etc. I suppose the most important thing is that you have fun and don’t stress over it too much, another option would be to go as a groups coordinated thing but from the sounds of it, your group already has outfits planned out. either way, i hope you have fun at your fandom gathering thing, it sounds like it’ll be fun! just make sure that what ever outfit you pick, make sure its durable and you won’t get too hot or too cold because that would suck. anywho, thanks for asking me!
oh and sorry for the massive essay and excessive links… woops.
