Confession

The fascists, right-wingers, xenophobes, stubborn traditionalists and racist (white) supremacists that have the loudest voice in Christianity in the western world (with the exception of the Roman Pope) make me embarrassed to be a Christian or even be associated with Christianity at large.

I really want to be part of a faith community that preaches love, justice and compassion in God’s name and not hatred, bigotry and bias. But there’s just too much baggage of the above-mentioned for me to even have the strength to find a community like that.

On excommunication

(It's been a while since I last wrote a post, and believe me when I say I really damn tried to shut my mouth about this, but here goes)

Since God is invisible (argue with this if you will, assuming that you do have a God), He could always be pictured according to one’s fancy; the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) in this case, extensively abuses His invisibility to mold Him into their visualization of what there is to be visualized. Children born into a Catholic family are already bombarded and programmed to believe and obey whatever the RCC says. So we can’t really blame the people if they would battle until the end to defend their beloved beliefs, they were brought up by it and all of us should respect that, sure, let them fight for what they think is right for the church. *Emphasis on what they think is right for the church and not WHAT IS NECESSARILY RIGHT FOR EVERYBODY ELSE, EVEN EXTERNAL OF THEIR CHURCH.

This is where foolish monopolization of the divine truth is seen, and the indispensable medieval thought that any deviance from the RCC’s teachings is considered evil and the people who pursue such is eternally condemned and will rot in the fiery pits of hell. Non-Catholics, given that they are oriented about the concept of “heaven and hell”, are therefore forced to condition themselves in the barricades that the RCC has readily set even for them as well.

They are clandestinely trying to bind us to a thousand-year old script that could no longer meet the demands of the existing people. Human-encounters and realities are neither static nor fixed, and society needs to adapt to this social fact and so should the Church, bend a few bones. 

The plain fact is that Catholicism, transcending from the previous point that it is the major proponent that being poor is fine and dandy, has become unintelligible of the modern world, numb of our needs and still constantly imposing certain expectations to society, confusing the allegiance of the people who are both subjects of the state and believers of the church. The RCC clearly attempts to contextualize Biblical messages into the Philippine setting, thus, rectifying their political involvements, because only they know what is and what is not “heaven-sent.”

How many more bills should be discarded before we truly recognize the thick-line that is supposed to be drawn between the church and the state?

How many more legislators would rather please the bishops but risk improving the lives of our impoverished countrymen whose only desire is to put a halt to child-production because they could no longer afford another mouth to feed?

And how many millions more would be born outside of a family that is happy to welcome them with open arms and the love that they deserve, not child-labor?
