👠 What was my muse’s last serious relationship like?
//His relationship with Rinna and Taliesen was dysfunctional, probably not entirely healthy, and I think a lot of it was borne out of necessity. People just can’t survive without any kind of support or love, and so in an environment like the Crows, that’s why they leaned on each other. I feel like it was kind of an inevitability. You live with your partners, you see them more than anyone else, and you are expected to know them so intimately you can work together as a well-oiled killing machine. I mean, you were specifically chosen to balance each other out. Falling in love is just the next logical step.
Except such relationships are forbidden; the Crows don’t want your loyalty to anyone to supersede the loyalty you have for your masters. Not to mention for an assassin to fall in love is just bad for business.
The knowledge that this relationship was forbidden was the root of all of their dysfunction, I think. They never confessed their love in words. They never did anything that felt like it crossed the line into too tender. They were always hyper-conscious about who was watching. They subconsciously did a lot of hurtful things to each other, to sabotage the relationship. After all, they know each other better than anyone, so they know how to hurt each other better than anyone.
But that doesn’t mean they weren’t very good for each other, also. They understood each other on a level that a non-Crow never would. They supported each other, especially through the trauma. For example, Zevran’s first consensual sex was with Taliesen. Who knows how Zevran might have turned out if he never had that experience?
Their fears were, eventually, proven true. It kills me to think how happy they could have been, were it not for the Crows.
