I like to imagine that somedays (though Edward is embarrassed to admit it) there have been days when he'd gotten so anxious to the point that he'd meet Jonathan a work maybe? During times Jonathan wasn't normally busy... he's not proud of it, this was During the time he was still in his early/ mid twenties when he was a twinge more impulsive... this might've been before he met Sal—

The way I see it, during that time him and Jon's relationship didn't really have a name— But Edward had met Salena and was absolutely infatuated with her (and her him) and began to spend more time with her which I can imagine made Jonathan jealous seeing as before that he'd had Eddie all to himself...

Edward wasn't trying to be cruel or mean to Jonathan, honestly he probably thought this was Jonathans opportunity for a brake... so he wouldn't have to help him or take care of him anymore...

So Edward and Salena began their relationship until eventually Edward and Jonathan probably had some sort of talk or dramatic moment where they clarify what their relationship is or something— idk
