If you haven’t seen it on one of my posts before, I have exercise induced anaphylaxis/urticaria. It sounds funny to be allergic to exercise, but it is really nothing to laugh at. It’s very serious. The last time it happened I went into anaphylactic shock and had to be rushed to the hospital via ambulance. It’s been getting worse and worse over the years and after the anaphylaxis incident my allergist put me on all kinds of antihistamines. Then, I broke out again, but I stopped soon enough (I’m getting better at telling when it’s coming on) and my allergist doubled my dosage. Last night I went running, with some friends and broke out again. It was very scary, because I was in a new place with new friends. I stopped really early this time, but I still felt extremely close to danger.
People who have this, including me, report it most often with running. I love running and I’ve tried not to give it up through all of this, but it has put me in danger a couple times now. I have come to realize I need to change it up. Running is not an option anymore. Like my allergist said, it’s better to be alive than continue running and be dead. From now on, I will be doing something else for cardio. Swimming, biking, etc. It won’t be easy and sometimes (like last night) it makes me feel like I just want to give up on fitness in general, but I’ll get through it, especially if I have your support!
