Sightings – S2E14 – “Russian Psychics” – January 15th, 1993
“With a Sightings investigative team working in Russia, we’ve been intrigued by the amount of respect and credibility given to the paranormal by government agencies there. In Moscow, the Scientific Research Center for Traditional Medicine is conducting serious research into psychic healing…”
Sightings' investigation into post-Soviet Russia continues, and it starts off with the nuttiest thing we've ever seen on this show
A group of psychics is...dancing in Red Square?
And one shows off his ability to control the hands of a compass with his mind?
But why are they in Red Square?
“The military parades and communist presence of the past are gone now, but a team of psychics is free to meet to perform an exorcism...of the evil spirits they believe haunt the Kremlin and Lenin’s tomb.”
THEY'RE EXORCISING LENIN'S GHOST
It's not even, like, a planned ritual. A group of psychics met up in Red Square and decided to improv a little exorcism of Lenin. The camera crew just kind of watch them for a bit and bounce. Like no. Why can't we linger on this. Did the man with the ability to control compasses and only compasses banish the GHOST OF LENIN or not? Did they get rid of those military parades of old once and for all? We'll only know if deranged hyper-nationalist militarism ever returned to Russia
To the world of psychic healers. Where we see a line of people waiting to see them. And we learn that they see terminally ill patients.
Moving on to psychic detectives, we learn from a Moscow police detective that less than 10% of missing persons cases in Moscow in 1992 were solved, that corpses are often left in graveyards, and that they don't have the resources to look for buried corpses so you could just get away with murder. But they go to psychics so yay!
And one of the psychics dowses for corpses?
Tim White closes us out by saying that one day, the wonderful Russian psychics could come to America. Well, they couldn't be worse than Sylvia Browne
