A plan of action to get my art skills where I want them to be.
Find several artists whose art you like.
Several of them, this is important.
Analyze and write down what exactly you like about their style. Writing down makes it science.
Trace one of their work. This should get your hand used to a new style.
Then copy their work once more, this time with colors and render. NO tracing. This should make your brain actually think what and how they did it. Write down the process.
Always pay attention to the things you liked about the style.
Compare the copied work to the original. Notice the differences. Ask why are they different. Add the new findings into your written down process.
After that draw something original following the things you learned while copying their art, one art per each artist. This is the practical testing of your theory. Write the results down.
Then mix the styles and draw something completely different, still following the things you learned. Write down the process.
Then implement things you’ve learned into your existing style.
Profit!
Note: I wrote this plan for myself and as I’m a pretty experienced artist I know a thing or two about the basics. If you’re new to the drawing business, you should add anatomy, shading, color theory, perspective and life drawing into the list.
Note 2: the important thing about choosing several artists is to mix their styles and make something new. If you’re copying only one artist, you’re just ripping off their style and thus kinda stealing their art. Not good.
Note 3: this should be done for learning purposes, so I wouldn’t recommend showing the copies you did to anyone, but if you’re gonna post anything not completely original you have to give credit to the artist and link to their work.
Also, I don’t know if this plan will work, lol. Gotta keep you posted
“I used to be glad I found you, someone like me.“
(I don’t like putting signatures so, PLEASE, if you want to post this gif somewhere GIVE CREDITS! Thank you~)
