Ever heard the phrase, the road to hell is paved with good intentions? Seems rather fitting in Naga’s case...

Oh, I have no doubt that Naga really thought she was doing what was best at any given point in time – but that doesn’t mean she should be pardoned.  She intended to help mankind by sharing knowledge to help their civilizations advance by leaps and bounds in their early days…but that led to Thabes’ rapid rise and eventual destruction at Duma’s hands.  Yes, she advocated the use of dragonstones and ceding the world to humanity to prevent degeneration…but that led to manaketes’ persecution at human hands and eventually to Medeus’ rampage.  So yes, she did mean well, and she was trying to help in a way that seemed right at the time – but the alternative aphorism is “Hell is full of good meanings, but heaven is full of good works.”  So how many of Naga’s works ended without someone suffering unduly?

I think it’s more...needing female protagonists that aren’t treated as second fiddle to male counterparts. Like...okay, listen, I love Fire Emblem, but this is absolutely an ongoing concern. Eirika is sidelined incredibly hard compared to Ephraim, and while Ephraim gets the cool war story, Eirika’s route is mostly about who wants to bone her. Radiant games introduced Micaiah and her group, only to render them completely irrelevant once Ike and Co shows up. And let’s not even get into Echoes, where pretty much every female character recruited in Alm’s route is a prisoner first, and how Celica gets relegated to secondary protagonist at the end of act 4. This isn’t exactly a new problem, but I kinda feel like it’s gotten worse rather than better.

When we talk about Corrin, who do we think of? Most fans say Female Corrin. She’s clearly the fan favorite. But IntSys seems to like Male Corrin better. He’s the one getting the unique refine, and who keeps showing up despite barely placing in popularity polls. Hell, I’m thoroughly convinced Female Byleth looks like that because they wanted to make the male form the better option so no one would rally behind female as default. They seem to rally behind the idea of male protagonist as the centerpiece, and I honestly can’t think of a single time a female character was allowed to actually hold the spotlight.

They can create good female characters. But on the whole, they also don’t treat them particularly well. And it’s something people should bring up when criticizing their works. I don’t necessarily expect perfect, flawless representation the entire time, or a swing the other way where male characters aren’t important. It’s just an issue that they can, and should, work on.

Building off that screen recorder thing, iOS users have a screen recorder built in. You need to head to Settings -> Control Center to enable it though.

thanks for the advice. my phone is an older android model so i don’t have a built-in option. i also gave up on trying to look for a screen recorder since i could never get any of them to work with sound or at a quality level that i was comfortable with posting.

That would make sense. But I’m still gonna be mad. Don’t do a rerun if it’s not getting us anything substantial? Or, better idea, have tap battles be like a week long instead of most of the month, so you can fit in a rerun and a new one? I dunno, I’m not their dad.

Wait, are you serious?  I checked this shit, it’s not supposed to do that!  Fucking news outlets...

Anyway, it’s definitely a problem, though I’m always reluctant to just complain about the crazy people.  Ultimately, someone who’s this out of touch is going to be a problem all its own, but the real problem here is, she was able to make these threats, travel out here, and immediately purchase a gun without questions.  That, to me, is the root of our problem here.  Because a crazy unarmed person would still be concerning, but we wouldn’t be closing schools over it.  We wouldn’t have people scared to send their children on their day-to-day.  The root problem is, has been, and always will be, that we don’t fucking check to see if the person buying this gun is someone who’s going to use it to kill a bunch of kids.  Because this one was pretty fucking obvious.
