fellow vikings fan, i seek someone to have a discussion with... ive been reading up on Ragnar's kids and there is one called Ivar The Boneless. the sources im finding on him suggest he may have been unable to walk which apparently didnt stop him from charging into battle while carried on a shield.... how awesome would that be if he showed up in Vikings portrayed as disabled but still kicking butt?
I'm actually incredibly interested to see how they handle that, since they've already introduced two of his other famous sons, Björn Ironside and Sigurd Snake-In-The-Eye and Ivar simply can't be left out of the epic, given the part he plays in the larger story.
(They seem to have skipped over his second wife, Thora Town-Hart, who he was supposed to have divorced Lagertha to marry, but I suppose it's irrelevant for this particular telling since Thora and both of their sons end up dying anyway. Also, in the saga, Björn was one of Aslaug's sons, not Lagertha's. I chalk it up to artistic license and the fact that saga-Ragnar was kind of an ass, whereas Ragnar in the show needs to have some saving graces aside from looking ridiculously hot covered in someone else's blood.)
I would LOVE to see Ivar the Boneless give some shield-borne asskicking and to have that representation in the show.
