Vacation Day 1: Vancouver to Quesnel approx. 630 km. Gorgeous sunny day for the most part, temperatures peaked in Lillooet at 28°C where we stopped for dinner, then quickly cooled off as the clouds and rain rolled in along Hwy. 97. Made it to the Billy Barker Casino Hotel just as the sun was setting around 10pm with still enough time for a night cap and some slots. Extra thankful for the longer days currently. It has been a day of small tasks and preoccupation...until just now. As I opened the back door, I caught a glimpse of a large buck running across the lawn, too quick to capture with my phone. Then I noticed the air, permeated with the scent of the wild roses that have burst into bloom. It’s the smell of fresh air after the light rain that fell and an intoxicating floral perfume that has to be experienced to understand. The Quesnel Foot Bridge was built in 1928 for foot traffic and horse-drawn vehicles. The “Horses must not exceed walking pace” sign is petty legendary around these parts.
