Today in mocking and insulting Spinel for how much of a loser he is...
In his obsession with Laquium and denial of bonds, and leaning into the only command he gives being "Attack!", Spinel has become no different from this:
Remember early Liko and Roy?
Ah how long ago it was. As total noobs at the time all they knew how to do was spam Ember and Leafage ad infinitum and hope it works. They have come a long way since.
Liko and Roy grew out of that, and progressed into skilled Trainers with strong bonds with their Meowscarada and Skeledirge, with Liko having tactical acumen and a guile, underhanded fighting style that can only be pulled off by such cleverness, Roy focuses on straightforward, raw power but can coordinate his head-on attacks strategically.
Meanwhile the opposite happened with Spinel. He started out as a clever strategist, able to use effective tactics and try to outplay and study his opponents, but in his obsession with Laquium and his complete neglect of training, lazily sitting in the background all day, every day, he regressed into a loser noob who only commands Attack and hopes the power of Laquium will deliver enough strength to hit hard and knock the opponent out.
Talk about a hilarious reversal. The man who was obsessed with pursuing strength artificially, refused to understand bonds because he was knee deep in distrust, and who sought a physical, artificial form of strength that nullifies the bond between Trainer and Pokemon so he can take control of battles and dominate with "raw power" and win...ended up regressing into a shitty noob who is fundamentally no better than actual noobs, only these two grew up...he regressed and became like their beginner selves.
And as a result, Liko kicked his ass harder than Friede did a year ago.
Packaged deal, do not separate (no matter how much they want you to) [not ship art]
individuals under the cut!
I cannot explain how much I ADORE villains that have no motive other than gaining control. No traumatic backstory. No redeeming traits. Just pure evil and undiagnosed psychopathy cough cough spinel cough cough
This is what I've gathered about the finale

Canon Friespinel is honestly really funny because Friede doesn't think about Spinel unless he absolutely has to. Like yes, Friede knows the Explorers are a threat and factors that into things, and he also recognizes Spinel as the most dangerous of them. But unless Spinel has shown his face, he's just not a person that Friede thinks about. Spinel does not take up space in Friede's mind, rent-free or otherwise.
Meanwhile, Spinel is out here concocting ways to lure Friede away from the others / trap and ambush him on at least three separate occasions so far. He says that Friede is "deserving of further study." He secretly followed him through the Exceed building. He had his Beeheyem spying on Friede after that. He trained his Beeheyem specifically to counter Cap, having studied Cap enough to do that, and having been so focused on Friede that he focused his own Beeheyem's training around him.
So while Friede could honestly go a week or more without thinking about Spinel at all, Spinel is regularly spinning Friede in his mind like meat on a spit. It's hysterical.
