The two most gratifying reactions I get from my players:
1. The smiles and laughter that engulf the table as they resolve an encounter using an obscure item or class feature I forgot about entirely 2. The look of utter betrayal as they fall into a trap they honestly should have seen coming by now
Sorcerer: Alright, I look at the note we found, even though I know it's going to be explosive runes.
Me, DM: You don't know that!
Sorcerer: Yes I do, it's the kind of shitty trap you'd do. Leave us helpful notes all around the dungeon, then make one of them explosive runes.
Me, DM: Jeez, you think so little of me! No, it looks just like the same script you've seen in other notes.
Sorcerer: Really? Oh, okay. I'm sorry, then.
Me, DM: You should be. I wouldn't do that to you! C'mon, man.
Sorcerer: Alright, alright, fine. What's the note say?
Me, DM: *pause for effect* So, you read the note?
Sorcerer: Yes?
Me, DM: EVERYBODY MAKE REFLEX SAVES
The Entire Party: GODDAMNIT
The Great and Powerful Trixie has seized hold of you.
