Random Thoughts #4
Inferior functions are where we are most likely to fall into pure black and white/yes or no thinking and into an obsessively purist "shit shit shit I don't get it, so everything is falling apart"-mode? Like, to illustrate, my ENFJ friends navigate most social interactions with ease (Fe). Something out of the ordinary happens? Something upsets the balance? It's all good, they know that there will be a solution in time. ENFJs have confidence in their Fe and know that it will find a way, even through seemingly muddy waters. Logical problems though? (Ti, their inferior function) Completely throws them out of the loop. You only need to mention the word "infinity" and you can see the logical part of their brain going "but -but - but- doesn't compute - nope - nope - danger zone". Me, on the other hand, someone whose first function is Ti, is surprisingly chill about logical paradoxes. I mean yeah, they fascinate me to no end, but they hardly ever freak me out - it's obvious to me that there must be some kind of higher logic at play and that we will find it in time. When it comes to social interactions, though (Fe, my lowest function) and somebody acts in a way I have never thought about or encountered and I feel like I must keep the social balance somehow my brain just goes "but - but - but - doesn't compute - nope - nope - danger zone!" That's why my ENFJ friends are much more likely to exclaim "But it doesn't make any sense!" when something doesn't add up and I am much more likely to exclaim "But it isn't fair/right!" if somebody acts in a way that is incomprehensible to me. Conversely, in the same situations, I usually just lean back and go "Huh, that's really complicated/ must be simplified/ approached from a different angle" and they go "Huh, something something". Not really sure about that. Mature Fe is still a bit of a mystery to me. Anyway, other case in point, I noticed that my INFP friends always become a bit fatalistic when their Te (their inferior function) doesn't add up and they can become ruthlessly efficient regarding a certain goal sometimes. tl;dr The higher up your function, the more blows it can endure before degenerating into an overly simplified "good/bad"-model? Eh, just ramblings.
