Hi there! I transferred to NYU last semester and I am really looking to get more involved and meet more people at NYU! It has been really difficult to make friends and meet people so far, but I have done a lot of research and joined a bunch of clubs. But, I am starting to lose hope that I will find a community here or close friends here I was wondering if you knew any clubs or organizations etc. that are good at building community? I would appreciate any help or suggestions! Thank you so much!

That’s really great that you’re making an effort; that’s really the first step. I wasn’t involved in a lot, but I met some awesome people working for the Washington Square News. If you’re not into journalism, then that’s not the best option for you though. The Program Board is also a great way to meet people and get involved with some cool events. The PB runs a lot of movie premieres and concerts, so you’ll get to interact with a lot of different people and groups. Since you’re a transfer student, you may want to check out some of the transfer programs NYU offers. You’d be able to meet other transfer students that may have had the same issues you’re running into and help new transfer students figure theirs out as well. I also know some girls who were in Greek Life and absolutely loved it. They made a lot of really close friends and built a tight community, so that may be something you can check out too!

I recently submitted my application for Spring 2016 transfer admission to NYU CAS. Do you know if I will receive an admissions decision this month or the first week of December?

Hello! I'm a California community college student looking to transfer to NYU fall 2016 as a Junior. I'm a communicators major, are standardized scores required? I never took them in high school & now I'm freaking out..

If you’ve completed at least a year of full-time enrollment in liberal arts/science courses, then no, you don’t have to submit standardized test scores.

I'm at a California Community college (sophomore) ready to transfer fall 2016. I'm applying to many schools & thinking about NYU. I have a 3.7 GPA & have done my General Ed/igetc/csu & communications major transfer requirements or the equivalent courses. Is there any specific undergraduate requirements for comm transfer majors? I've gotten letters from Cornell & I've seen the comm transfer requirements online but I can't find NYU's transfer requirements besides GPA. Help!? Thanks!

Other than the general transfer instructions for NYU, I haven’t found any real requirements for transferring into the Media, Culture, Communications major. They have a recommended GPA, which you found, and that’s also all that I found. If you haven’t checked, I would suggest poking around on their website to see if you get any ideas, but other than that, I think just following NYU’s requirements if what you need to do.

I'm in high school out of state graduating this year. Is it likely that if I take two years of community college in New York (thinking about nassau community college) i can transfer to NYU my junior year?? (I want to go to NYU so badly but I can't afford it, so thought if i went to community college i could afford the next two years.)

You can absolutely apply to transfer into NYU as a junior. It’s a great idea for saving money, especially if you aren’t 100% what you want to study at first and can get your requirements taken care of. One thing that’s super important is to make sure you check if your credits will transfer. Many community colleges are good with that, but you don’t want to get stuck having to go longer and/or pay more money because some credits didn’t transfer.

Hello :)! So long story short I had to drop out of high school due to a head injury I received during May of my freshmen year. I'm currently working on getting my GED and hope to be able to attend a normal four year college. If I had stayed in school, I would have just started my junior year. Anyway, I was thinking of maybe enrolling in a community college and start taking classes next fall. If I were to complete one year at a community college, would I still be able to apply as a freshman to

NYU? I’m planning on double majoring in IR and EAS, but none of the community colleges here offer Chinese or Japanese, so that’s a pretty big problem for me since I really want to study both. If I were to attend a community college for a year, I would probably just take core classes like math, English, etc and maybe get those classes out of the way by the time I transfer into a 4 year university. I haven’t really found any info bout transferring and enrolling as a freshman again. Thanks

Since you would be completing at least a year at another college, you would have to apply as a transfer. NYU says that their most competitive applicants have completed the equivalent of a full year of academic work, so you would fit into that category. So, essentially, if you apply after one year, you would enter NYU as a sophomore or in your second year.

Hey there! So I wanted to know whether it was possible for me to transfer to NYU Steinhardt's Media and Communications programme after the first semester of my freshman year at a liberal arts college in NY My high school GPA is 3.81 and my IB diploma score is 40/45 . I also have a 2050 SAT, have won several scholarships and am involved in Model UN and Judo. I am also an international student if that matters . What are my chances?Is it also true that NYU is more interested in stats than extra co?

The MCC program only accepts Fall transfers, so you’d have to apply for the first semester of your sophomore year if you’re thinking about applying. It is also very competitive for external transfers, but it’s possible! If you’re transferring from another college, your academics from that college are also important in your decision, so as long as you do the best that you can, you’ll always have a chance. 

I also don’t know that to be NYU’s preference. Everything that I’ve read basically says that NYU is holistic and considers everything important.

hi! i applied to NYU for this year and i'm still on the waitlist. pretty sure i won't make it, but i wanted to ask how likely is it for me to be able to transfer if i do really well my first semester at my state university (or first year). thank you!

It all depends on how you do during your first year in your school. NYU says that their most competitive applicants have completed at least 32 credits before applying (which is about a full academic year), so, as long as you’ve done well in your first year, you should be putting yourself in a good position.
