I’m not going to do a plot synopsis because this book in my opinion is best read going into blind; just know it’s about a small group of American college kids who take classics and have a very hard time connecting with their world now that they know the flames and the fires of the ancient world, and how these ancient worlds and tragedies still can rip us apart today.

Liked: 

So much. It’s hard to write this because it doesn’t feel like a book that’s supposed to be picked apart and analysed like this, it’s a tragedy that the reader is to fall into and forget that it’s not real. I think that’s what I love about this book so much, and about Donna Tartt’s writing as a whole- it’s all so real. 

Disliked:

How can I truly dislike anything in this novel that so accurately demonstrates and aestheticizes life? 

Overall: I truly view this book to be à modern classic that should be read by everyone. There is literally nothing else for me to say; it is impossible not to be rendered speechless by this book.

In a recent oxford study, it showed that teenagers who read often at the age of 16 were linked to a more prestigious career in the future. It also showed that playing an instrument or participating in other cultural activities increased this chance.
