I mean, yeah, it's been hinted in previous Volumes that she might be his ancestor or something. Considering Salem's voice actor and Jaune's voice actor have recorded lines together as in their characters interacting.
I know there was Tyrian's one line about finding Jaune interesting but that's the only plausible connection I can think of.
I'm just tired of Miles and the other writers giving Jaune more than the actual main characters. He has gotten way too much for someone who isn't a title character, let someone who isn't billed as the protagonist.
Team RvvBY are the worst title protagonists I have ever seen in media. Reduced to nothing characters, Ruby barely has a character arc and only gets to be important in filler arcs, Blake doesn't learn jack from the white fang arc and her 'all lives matter, it's your responsibility as a minority to deal with the bad minorities so the racists will like us' speel is gross and offensive. Her abuse arc with Adam is trash and equally offensive. Bumblebee is trash and i'm convinced the writers will somehow butcher their inevitable confession because they're hacks who only see their characters as tools to bait the fndm and sell merch. Yang's Raven issues boil down to 2 conversations where she tells her egg donor to piss off and her ptsd is magically healed from killing her gf's abuser. Weiss' arrest of her father is treated like a total joke with her not lifting a finger and instead had her useless mother do all the work then he dies and that's it and the characters quickly move on.
The writers clearly don't care about RWBY and writing for them must feel like a chore. Jaune's gonna inevitably take over in volume 9 because clearly they would prefer to write for the generic everyday white boy lovable goofball for nerdy white guys to insert themselves into.
It's already bad enough they've set up another him angsting over Pyrrha 2.0 arc. I don't want this stupid oh look Jaune's also special because he's related to Salem and now we gave another non-title character a legitimate reason to fight her and not the actual title characters who can easily be replaced/removed from the story and it wouldn't matter.
