reheating ep1 and was struck all over again by just how kind shane's actions are during the press conference. like, he doesn't just notice ilya struggling and step in w/o drawing attention to it (while still managing to subtly ask if that's what ilya wants) to give him time to think of an answer* no, shane has to go full grade-school-short-answer mode and reuse the words from the reporter's question, repeatedly, to give ilya the chance to understand the question.

*already way more generosity than ilya is used to. this is supposed to be his rival, yet shane shields him from embarrassment so easily, automatically. and then he has the gall to respect ilya's intelligence too by answering in a way that arms him with the words to craft his own response?? fuck right the hell off.

and shane's little smile when ilya just goes "what he said" they are EQUALS!!!!!

I'm sorry but the way annabeth's eyes dart around before she leads percy onto the dance floor, like she's panicking studying the other dancers (she didn't grow up in the mortal world! she doesn't know what they're supposed to do!)

when seeing percabeth from the outside (aka NOT from percy "lol why would anyone be into me, let alone someone as cool & smart as annabeth" jackson's pov), I suddenly feel so much empathy for literally all of camp half blood, but especially the aphrodite kids. you KNOW they were just in their cabin every day exchanging news like

in the car to shane's cottage, ilya says he's glad to be there but also "terrified, yes?" with this undercurrent that they're getting so much closer and ilya is scared to death about it. this is new and he wants it so bad and he's in love with shane and he doesn't know how shane feels- of course he's terrified.

but shane responds, "did anyone recognize you, at the airport or anything?" then goes to reassure ilya that "the cottage is super private so we don't need to worry about anything." because now that he's accepted the reality that he's gay and in love, his biggest fear is not rejection, it's being outed.

he hears that ilya is terrified and doesn't think for even a second that he could be scared of how shane feels (isn't it obvious? he feels love and he is committed, like soulmates doesn't even begin to cover it) no, he assumes ilya is scared of being discovered, like he is. and so he tries to assuage those fears.

but ilya has been at peace with his sexuality for a lot longer than shane. what he is not used to is the idea of being loved, by someone who sees him and stays
