❝ How do you feel about your team's performance?
Minjae was still coming down from the high that always came with performing on stage when a question was suddenly aimed his way. It was only then that the Galaxy trainee noticed the camera that was focused on him, resulting in a slight start. "Ah, I'm..." Still out of breath, he chuckled breathily before continuing. "I feel like there were some things that I could have done better, but... My teammates, and the dancers that we got to work with did really well." Minjae smiled sheepishly ( a sweet expression which, unbeknownst to the male himself, managed to bring a blush to the cheeks of the female staff member who had come to give the dancer a towel ). Always modest, he couldn't say that he did perfectly, no matter how well he had done. "Overall, I'm satisfied. I just hope that the viewers enjoyed it as much as we did."
Vampires.
Minjae couldn't have been more pleased with the concept that he and his groupmates had come up with for their performance on EXTRA. There were so many different directions that they could have taken it ( with the rising popularity of vampires in the past few years, the monster had quite a variety of "images" ), and he liked knowing that they had plenty of options. After much discussion among the members, they managed to agree on all of the details pertaining to what would be the first performance on the show for all four of them.
The weeks leading up to the new show's pilot episode were long and tiring. Along with all of the usual lessons that came with being an idol trainee under Galaxy Records, he also needed to make time to prepare specifically for EXTRA --- both with his groupmates and alone. And of course, with Taemin currently in the hospital, frequent visits to see his boyfriend were absolutely crucial. Needless to say, Minjae was exhausted. But at the end of the day, he didn't regret it. Each of those things ( lessons, practice, and hospital visits ) all benefited him in their own way --- and not just him, but those around him as well ( and that was, in the trainee's mind, just as if not more important ).
When the day finally came, the trainee couldn't help feeling nervous. Sure, he'd been on stage before, but mostly as a backup dancer, where the spotlight wasn't on him and his presence wasn't necessarily vital to the performance. As he peeked out at the hundreds of people seated before the stage, and reminded himself of the possible thousands that would be watching from their TVs or phones, the twisting sensation in his gut was only inevitable. Of course, this didn't stop him from trying to keep his teammates feeling at ease; while Akari seemed to be doing just fine, he was particularly worried about Sehyeon and Minhee, and made sure to give them lots of encouragement all the way up until the moment they had to go up on stage.
He liked to believe that his own nerves hadn't shown. But he was probably wrong.
Stepping onto the stage, Minjae looked out at the audience, a million thoughts flooding through his mind at once. This first episode, this first performance, was going to be very important. It was his chance to show them what he was capable of and to raise expectations for the following episodes. His performance, if not careful, could bring not just him but the rest of his team down. His gaze flickered to where the other contestants sat, and just before the music began he was reminded of someone who would have loved to be there as well, someone who was stuck watching from a hospital bed due to immensely unfortunate circumstances.
I have to do well for you, too.
Cue that first roll of digitalized thunder, and it was as if someone had hit a switch. The trainee's entire demeanor had changed, perfectly suiting the creepy and somewhat sultry nature of the group's performance. Everything came naturally to him, each movement fluid but sharp where need be, intricately calculated from the glint in his eye to the curve of his finger. Despite his usual timid and often times awkward tendencies off stage, "sexy" was an image that Minjae pulled off exceptionally well, and that fact rang true as ever that night.
It wasn't until he heard the audience's applause that he came back down to Earth. The performance was over. He could only hope that all of their hard work together had paid off. He'd been confident in his group from the get-go ( how lucky was he to be put with such amazing dancers? of course, it was bound to happen when the show was full of them. ); he knew that they would do well and he was certain that they, like him, had given their all. Now all that was left was the results.
Though concerned that he could have done better --- he was a perfectionist, so this was only to be expected --- as Minjae stepped backstage he definitely felt satisfied.

white face paint, red lipstick, two bunches in her hair. eva was as ready as she'd ever be for this performance. she stood to the side of the stage, frequently glancing out at the people in the crowd. the girl and her team had worked long and hard on this performance, and the night before eva had nearly pulled out her hair with the thought of should she get the dance wrong. a shout of her name brought her out of her thoughts, and she smiled at the reporter who dashed her way.
"ah! eva-ssi!" the reporter grinned as the two bowed at each other. "just the person i wanted to find. you see, we were just wondering about your take on today. how are you feeling? are you nervous at all?"
if the question took the girl off guard, it didn't show, the girl quickly finding her words and smiling brightly. "ah. i've been extremely lucky to have such a fantastic team for this task. we worked together well and i think we should do well in the task today." the second question caught her lightly off guard and she thought about if for a moment before replying. "well... i haven't been on stage for quite a while now, so whilst i'm not too worried about my dance skills... i'm slightly nervous about being back onstage. i also really don't want to let my team down, but i'll do my best." another slight bow and off went the reporter to find her next victim.
to say that eva was nervous was an understatement. as the team of three stood waiting to go on stage, eva, for a short moment, was sure she was going to pass out. when the team was finally called upon, she sent a quick smile to her team members before stepping out onto the stage. as eva stepped out into the spotlight, the anxiety she had felt about going on stage again simply fell away.
the music started and eva smirked. she knew the choreography like the back of her hand. she could probably do this dance in her sleep, no problem. the adrenaline began to kick in almost immediately and she threw herself into the performance.
her moves were graceful, fluid and disciplined, in a way that 18 years of dancing brings about. the choreography was fast paced and rather difficult but eva kept up with the other two males easily. the paint on her face was slightly distracting, especially when she began to sweat, however, she tried to pay it no mind.
eva was in her element. the stage was where she belonged, where she fit in. to say she was ecstatic to be back onstage was the understatement of the century. as the performance came to a close, she threw everything she had into the last part of the dance, her muscles screaming at her to stop. as the music finished, it took all of her willpower for her to not drag her teammates into a hug, so she settled for a beaming smile, almost jumping up and down due to the adrenaline.
"okay, first we need to pick a concept. and then a song. and then choreography..." eva chanted the checklist in her head, over and over, as she made her way to the practice room to meet her teammate. the dancer was only partially nervous; hip-hop and street music had been one of her strengths since the age of seven. however, in the face of other amazing dancers, she felt her own skills were lacking.
she shook the thoughts out of her head as she reached the practice room door, spotting bong ki already inside. she put on her brightest smile and stepped inside. "bong ki-ssi! are you ready to have the best practice ever?"
"Wah, there's so many people waiting outside already and there's still a few hours left... Did you see? I hope they're not burning up out there..." He gestured vaguely towards the exit, where he'd just resturned from peeking out at the lines of soon-to-be viewers "camped" out outside the venue. The team had just finished rehearsal and were waiting in their dressing room until it was time to get ready ( of course, with Minjae being the only male on the team, he would obviously go elsewhere once it came time to change into their stage outfits. ). He was honestly feeling quite confident, as there weren't any major incidents during rehearsal; just minor things that could easily be fixed before the actual performance. "Hey," Minjae flashed the girl an encouraging smile after a moment of thoughtful silence. "You were really great out there."
