"And not for the first time, and not for the last, question why I'm here. And wonder, again if it would've been better if I'd stayed. Wonder what it is I'm waiting for exactly." [EXU Ep 7 27:50]
This specific phrasing is so interesting--Orym's been gone from home for so long, but the fact that he's apparently continually questioning his choice to leave and the statement that he feels he's "waiting for" something make me wonder what specifically drove him to leave in the first place. I think i always assumed it was mostly grief and the difficulty being in a place Will had been so integral to with him now gone, potentially combined with a tiny sliver of revenge quest depending on if the idea of looking for the assassins had crossed his mind at all before he was given further info just prior to cr3, but primarily with the intent of him getting away, not with the intent of him looking for something. But these questions he's asking make it seem more like he left with a goal, searching for something. It's more like the words of someone who's experienced a loss of purpose or identity and has gone out onto the world to try to rediscover those things, which makes me wonder if the triggering factor was also related to his role as a guard. In Zephyra he and the other guards were almost entirely ineffective at combatting the assassins, and while Keyleth herself was ok the attack resulted in many of the guard dying, with the enemy escaping. I wonder if it's more of a "journey to find yourself again after something traumatic" than a "leaving the site of your traumatic experience because you can't face the memories;" with Orym grieving Will and trying to learn how to exist without him, and also to reckon with and reassess his identity as a protector which is so so integral to who he is.
Tell me why I just pictured Liam as Orym talking to Matt as Gilmore about losing a loved one. Tell me why that made me emotional. Liam's character talking about losing his husband with an NPC who loved and lost a different Liam character.
Gilmore would be able to empathize with Orym about Will because of Vax and I'm-

Aimee: Get it on its back. I know what to do with crocodiles. They can't turn over. Aabria: Hold on, roll a deception check on me. Is that true? Aimee: That's true! I'm from Florida, I know these things. Aabria: I don't believe you, but we'll see how it goes. Aimee: You guys, I swear. They get docile when you do that. Ashley (reading from Google): I see alligator, but if you put it on its back, after 15, 20 seconds, the alligator goes limp. And becomes unresponsive.
This will forever be my moment in Exandria Unlimited.
When Matt's nails are prettier than yours.
I'm so embarrassed that it took me so long to see it.
