Whenever I saw Liam, only thing comes to my mind is that he gave a concert at Saudi just for more money. I don't know why but ppl don't care about this fact at this Fandom. I m a muslim woman at a secular Republic country, maybe that's why I know how horrible it's for women there. After that concert whatever he does just don't matter anymore, they all seem fake and it angers me a lot that ppl didn't care about it at the time and still don't care.
Obviously I wrote quite a bit at the time about Liam doing Saudi goverment propaganda (which is what bothers me about the situation, as I’ve said several times I don’t think the idea that they should only play in countries that aren’t fucking over their people is pretty unsustainable). So I’m not sure who you think doesn’t care
And your reaction is your own. You never have to engage with Liam at all. But you seem to be insisting that anyone who doesn’t centre this in their whole conception of Liam doesn’t care and that seems absurd to me.
It’s also the most boring and least useful version of cancellation politics. Meaningful change comes about through organising collective action. And to do that many people have to learn and grow. One of the things that gives me hope in this moment is that many people are taking actions that they’ve never taken before. That includes Liam - who is a monumental dumbass when it comes to politics.
What I think is most frustrating about your response is that it is both individualising and universalising. You are making a decision by yourself that a certain action defines what a person is, but you’re insisting that it’s the only valid decision and the only reason that people aren’t is because they don’t care. That’s the opposite of collective politics, which is owrking to fid common groud even though people have diverse ideas, experiences and needs.
If you want to stan go ahead and do that, but don’t pretend that it’s more than that, or that you can tell how people feel about wider political issues by the way they post about 1D members.
