thinking about when tommy told ellie and dina that him and maria were taking some time apart, but specifically when he said "it's something we both want" and how to me... that is tommy's way of giving himself the miller brother treatment like JOEL DIDN'T THINK HE DESERVED TO BE HAPPY FOR SO MANY YEARS (maybe truthfully ever in game???) and here tommy is saying that maria, the person who i honestly believe changed his life for the better, is now someone who he wants to spend time away from. his grief and his anger put him in a place where he feels like he is better off alone. this isn't to say that from maria's perspective tommy hasn't changed or that she didn't have her own rightful reasons. i mean, this scene alone proves how much he has: he's exhausted but still blooming with rage. he is vengeful in more ways than i even think he was during the earlier half of the game. time didn't heal his wounds, which is something he probably thought would happen because that's how tommy managed to get through the trauma in his life prior to joel's death. but when it comes to him taking time away from maria... i don't think it has anything to do with maria herself if he really allowed himself to think about it, but in the wise words of taylor swift "i can't see facts through all of my fury"
