cleanse | tone | moisturise
This was a fun, quick and easy PM regimen, which sometimes, is exactly what you need in life.
I really like The Body Shop’s seaweed skincare line—it does a good job of purifying my pores and calming down spots without overdrying me, which is basically the gold standard for acne-prone combination skin. I wanted to do a somewhat sea-themed regimen, so I followed the cleanser and toner with the SkinFood Jellyfish Marine Hydrogel Mask, which was super moisturizing and soothing—I left it on for nearly an hour and it was still soaking in when I finally pulled it off and patted in the rest.
I wrapped up with a nice dollop of the Mario Badescu Ceramide Eye Gel, which always feels so nice on tired eyes, and sealed it all up with the J.One Black Jelly Pack, which I’ve been meaning to try to get into my regular nighttime regimen, but I’m still figuring out how best to layer it. It definitely goes best with other gel-based products, but I’m wondering if I could layer a cream on top of it as things get cooler and drier? To be continued...
Another Sunday night, another green tea multi-masking session!
Green tea remains one of my favorite ingredients for skincare: it’s so nourishing and refreshing, great for skin that can’t decide whether it wants to be oily or dry. I started out with my trusty Green Dr. Jart Dermaclear Trans-Foam for a quick deep cleansing and followed it up with Mario Badescu’s Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea Facial Spray as a toner.
The only really new product I tried in this regimen was the H2O+ Aqua Defense Refining Matcha Peel-Off Mask, which I found deeply underwhelming. It didn’t take off the two layers of my dermis to reveal a magical new version of me underneath, and at $40 for that tiny-ass tube, I can’t abide anything short of magic.
The BioRepublic Green Tea Detox Purifying Mask was also fairly meh, if I’m being perfectly honest. I think I’m at a point in my Kbeauty skincare journey where I know which brands, products, and ingredients are my favorites, and I only really want to try something new if it meets, like, two of those criteria. Fortunately, my Innisfree Green Tea goodies always come through in the end to keep me feeling refreshed and moisturized just time for some much-needed beauty sleep before the work week gets going.
A Sunday kind of regimen: green tea to get ready for the week! I wanted to keep it light since it's still somewhat summery, so I went with my favorite cooling products and gels for moisture. The Organic Purist Green Tea cleanser is made for more oily skin, but it feels so refreshing and preps really nicely for further toning, treatment, and moisturization. The Mario Badescu spray is one of my new favorite products, and I followed it up with my old faves from Tosowoong and Innisfree. All in all, it was an easy late afternoon session that lent itself very well to a lazy Sunday where I didn't feel like doing much of anything at all.
I had way too much fun with Snapchat's Easter filters the other night. I wanted to do a quick and easy deep clean and lightweight moisture regimen, since it was warm enough to keep the windows open overnight. I do love the Innisfree green tea line, which was one of my first KBeauty purchases long ago, and is great for my combination skin the spring and summer months. I also actually used the Dr. Jart+ Trans-foam Clay as a cleanser (like you're supposed to) and it did a really nice job of cleansing without over-drying. We then proceeded to listen to the last episode of S-Town, however, so I proceeded to ugly-cry most of it all off anyway.
This has been QUITE a weekend, and yes, I know it's Monday. On Friday I had five gum grafts, three on my bottom gums and two up top, covering thirteen different spots in my mouth. It was a four hour surgery, and I wasn't completely knocked out for it: I was woozy and loopy, but mostly awake and could feel some sensations but (fortunately) no pain. I was swollen and numb when I got done, and remained pretty sore and swollen for much of the weekend. Today the swelling is finally going down a bit, but now there's bruising to contend with, and it's that old, yellowed looking bruising around my mouth and cheeks that always takes forever to heal for me. I also missed the Women's March, which was a huge bummer for me, but I'm also feeling determined to take more action to make up for it. So, anyway, long story short: I'm not feeling myself right now. My cheeks are still too tender for a deep cleanse, but the RE:cipe green tea cleanser came through with a nice bit of froth and some scrubbiness that wasn't too crazy. I'm really loving the Avene spring water more and more as a super-gentle cleanser follow-up than other more potent toners at the moment, and the Tosowoong Pure Green Tea Mask is a perennial favorite of mine. I'm trying to keep it light so maybe my dermatitis stays at bay (not being able to do more than use cleansing cloths and waters might have had something to do with it clearing up over the weekend), so then I'm following up with my trusty Innisfree Green Tea Balancing Skin and Cream along with Mario Badescu's Ceramide Eye Gel. Tomorrow is my first day back at work, with a mouthful of stitches, a liquid diet requirement, and I'm sure I'll be still be swollen, but at least my skin will hopefully be softer, smoother, brighter and ready to take on the rest of what is sure to be a busy week.
