SPF for Your Eyes: 9 Formulas Worth Trying
As someone with a genetic predisposition to dark circles, I’ve been using eye cream since my teens. My mom, a makeup minimalist, had a cooling gel eye cream from the Body Shop I stole swipes of in middle school and was hooked ever since, using it morning and night. As a fair-skinned female, I’ve also had an obsession with sunscreen, but I had yet to find a great eye cream with SPF in it — or a designated eye sunscreen for summer. Now in my 30s and noticing the crinkles destined to become crow’s feet, I made this quest a priority and found nine formulas to suit a variety of needs, skintones, and seasons. Here are my top picks.
Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Circle Perfector SPF 30
This was the best multi-tasker of the bunch. Concealer can get messy in the hot summer months, and I found that this tinted formula rubbed in quickly and camouflaged my dark circles with a matte finish. A perfect summer go-to. Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Circle Perfector SPF 30 ($38)

Supergoop! Advanced Anti-Aging Eye Cream Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 37
A cool-touch, angled, metal applicator sets this sunscreen apart, letting you get into all the little corners with ease. Tighten wrinkles and brighten your eye area with light-reflecting mica while protecting from UV rays. Supergoop! Advanced Anti-Aging Eye Cream Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 37 ($45)

Murad Essential-C Eye Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 15
Despite it’s lower SPF, this one felt most like a sunscreen with a white application that rubbed in for a dewy finish. It may be my imagination, but the formula felt a bit cool on contact, and was pleasant to wear out in the blazing sun. Murad Essential-C Eye Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 15 ($69)

Lancôme Bienfait Multi-Vital Eye Sunscreen SPF 28
This applies like an upscale face sunscreen — white and a little runny, but rubs is really nicely. It won’t irritate your skin or clog pores, and on a sweaty day it won’t melt off. Lancôme Bienfait Multi-Vital Eye Sunscreen SPF 28 ($40)

Shiseido Sun Protection Eye Cream SPF 34
This is my pick for a long beach day. The formula is quite thick and white, but it rubs in pretty well with a matte finish. It stays put and doesn’t sting your eyes after swimming. Shiseido Sun Protection Eye Cream SPF 34 ($33)

Mineral Fusion SPF 16 Brightening Eye Cream
This mineral eye cream applies pretty white, but rubs in instantly for a matte finish. The label says it’s 100 percent vegan, but it’s also gluten, paraben, and phthalate-free. Mineral Fusion SPF 16 Brightening Eye Cream ($25)

Ole Henriksen Total Truth Eye Creme SPF 15
For luxe appeal, this is the hands-down winner. The rich formula feels ultra-pampering and melts right into your skin with a clean scent. Ole Henriksen Total Truth Eye Creme SPF 15 ($45)

Elizabeth Arden PREVAGE Anti-aging Eye Cream Sunscreen SPF 15
This hydrating eye cream has a golden peach tint to it, but it disappears on application. It’s loaded with Idebenone, a powerful antioxidant to keep your eye area looking young and supple. Elizabeth Arden PREVAGE Anti-aging Eye Cream Sunscreen SPF 15 ($100)
